Zatanna, Mistress of Magic

No Caption Provided

Introduction

Zatanna Zatara, the Mistress of Magic, is considered one of DC's most powerful magic-users. Her magic is practically limitless; pretty much anything she can say backwards will happen.

Zatanna is a member of the Justice League, as well as its supernatural team, the Justice League Dark. At times, she has even led the JLD. Zatanna is a famous stage magician and illusionist, travelling the world to put on extravagant shows. Because of her power, knowledge, and experience, she is often the Justice League's go-to person for all things involving magic or the supernatural.

Although she often casts her spells by speaking backwards, this is not something she is obligated to do. On many occasions, she has cast spells without speaking at all. She mostly just speaks backwards as a tribute to her father and to better channel her spells. Her backwards magic has been stated to be quite powerful, and very few people are capable of replicating it.

Since the New-52 version of Zatanna is different from the Rebirth version, I will be splitting the RT into one section for her New-52 feats and another for her Rebirth feats. Within each of the two sections, I will be splitting her feats into categories, which will be listed alphabetically.

I will not be including feats that were done by Zatanna with the help of other characters. For each feat, the caption will include what she says backwards, followed by a brief explanation of the feat itself. Feats done while Zatanna was weakened/amped will be indicated as such.

Most of her New-52 feats come from Justice League Dark Volume 1, while most of her Rebirth feats come from Justice League Dark Volume 2.

Conclusion

Overall, Zatanna is quite powerful and extremely versatile. However, her magic is moderated by what the plot requires, so she can be written as anything from street-tier, to high-tier, to even beyond that. She is as weak or as powerful as the plot requires. Her Pre-52 version is perhaps her most powerful version, as she has a couple of universal/multiversal feats of magic.

Her physicals are quite street-level, and aside from scaling her combat speed, she isn't particularly fast. Personally, I rank Zatanna as a high-tier, due to being able to face off against characters such as John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Felix Faust, etc. and her powers being able to work on a planetary level. She could possibly be a match for Dr Fate. Even though she ranks herself as being better than Phantom Stranger and having a feat or two above him, she isn't consistently powerful enough to be on his level. However, her magic being able to work on a multiversal being such as Mr. Mxyzptlk is quite impressive.

Great job👌 That's a lot of sections. I like that you wrote the spells under each scan.

She's one of DC's premier mystics for a reason. Great job and really well detailed!

@geekryan:

We should add Zee defeating Pralaya who destroy the multiverse and breaking the 4th wall like in seven soldier, and in the fight against Nabu in recent JLD. Also upcoming fight against Upside Down Man

I didn't add the first because IIRC, she was amped by the rest of the JLD.

As for her recent feats, I'm waiting for this run of JLD to end before I update the RT!

Isn’t Mystik U not a canone? Zatanna has many feats on that comic and you should put them.

It is a great list. Zatanna is so damn powerful—
