I wouldn't mind so long as the story supports it and makes sense.

Basically Superman becomes a supporting Kryptonian character like Supergirl and Superboy, rather than leading. This seems antithetical to the point of the character and it would make him irrelevant. Why use that character at all in this case?

I would be interesting. Superman is seen as such a long standing part of American propaganda and culture that it would neat to see how he would be perceived as a symbol that has long been a rival of the US.

Superman shouldn’t be serving anyone. He stands for an ideal and by changing that you devalue the character.

Also having new Mary Sue characters appear out of nowhere and then subsequently knocking legacy characters down a peg is exactly why Marvel sucked from post-Secret Wars to very recently.

If anything you could have a Chinese Superman representing more Eastern societal values and have them interact together.

China is largely regarded by the world as superior to the U.S, it makes sense for comics to acknowledge this bit by symbolizing a subservient US-based Superman to someone of the Chinese race.

I was working in the U.S and most of my fellow engineers are Chinese and Indian. The Chinese immigrants are one of the many aspects that is still propping up and making America great. I won't be surprised if Donald Trump eventually folded in the current ongoing trade war.

That would make the most well known Superhero irrelevant. I have no problem with them introducing a Superman supporting character who is Chinese though.

Are they incapable of making original characters without tokeninizing existing ones? Why not not make him a chinese Tranny that is gender fluid but currently identifying as a Lama. @professorrespect: Because Superman is well known for being an American icon and completely taking that away to make a Chinese version look better would go against what he’s supposed to be as a character. It would be like if you got James Bond and then brought in an American character who’s never been previously established, and then made him a better spy than James Bond in every way. Then James Bond would have to work under this American spy’s command. That would feel like American propaganda. One character whose entire existence is encompassed by the country he’s from and then he’s made to look bad only to make another country look better.

@kanyecosby: Not really, Superman just has to work well with others like him, rather than his powers being unique to America and just having the JLA (which, while there are teams like the Great Ten, they aren't international, while the JLA is)

Not only that, but the "truth, justice and the American way" slogan used many a time by Superman actually removed the last part after WW2 due to it being not needed. When Cold War came along, they added it back in.....for propaganda. Turns out he's been a propaganda piece since then, lol
