Would Tom Cruise as Iron Man have been better or worse than RDJ?

I'm not sure.

Mostly because that never happened. While I'm sure he wouldn't be better than RDJ, he certainly wouldn't be bad at all. However, I'd still have RDJ as Iron Man simply because he owns that character and looks just like him.

So, the question is, would you still enjoy the MCU movies and Iron Man trilogy as much with Cruise as with Downey?

It would be very different. Tom can definitely look the part. I mean, would anyone ever guess that Cumberbatch can look like Strange? But RDJ is better at playing a drunk

tbh maybe it's because of the years I've seen RBJ as Ironman, but I can't think of a single actor that's better suited for the role

@itouchedtheboat: Right now i think RDJ playing this role is being consistent throughout all of his MCU movies , that even changed the character a lot in comics as well .

Downey is obviously THE guy for it.

Cruise would've been great too but I think he lacks how natural Tony would be if he was a real life guy. His a§§holry might have been a little too exaggerated. I think Cruise would've overdone it while RDJ basically, you know, plays it naturally.

Cruise would have been a decent Tony Stark but not as good as RDJ.

I could definitely see this, but I think Cruise's Stark would stick a bit more closely to the comics of the time (and yes, I say that knowing full well that some artists deliberately used Tom Cruise as a model for Tony Stark). Frankly, he'd probably be used to playing that type of stoic, tormented hero by then. I couldn't see him replacing RDJ as the fast-talking smartass, though.

He might have done well, but the MCU as we know it wouldn't exist...Cruise's ego would mean he'd never go to bat for his co-stars and he'd have made sure the stories were always more about him than anyone else. Look at what he did to the Mummy.
