Would The Force Awakens been better if Luke saved Rey in the forest scene?

I was watching an interview with Mark Hammil where he said that he first hoped that was going to be his part.

What if in the scene where Rey force pulls the lightsaber in the forest, instead of it being Rey who does it, it turns out it's Luke, so he makes his entrance, kicks some ass and saves Rey and Finn from Kylo?

I know I would have liked that much more than what happened, it doesn't make Kylo look weak and Rey so perfect and also gives Luke some spotlight that was really missing from TFA.

No, because he wouldn't be in hostile territory near the First Order in the first place, hence the self imposed exile. And if he died then, he'd have perished on Starkiller Base with no hope of training other force sensitives or stopping them later down the line.

It wouldn't have saved the movie but it would have made the movie infinitely better.

Didn't stop Luke in EP 4, 5 and 6.

Wait who said dying, would've sucked if he died there, just saving them.

@gotoucanario:

Didn't stop Luke in EP 4, 5 and 6.

Ep 4 he was still a naïve young adult and was helped by Obi Wan, the rebellion and Han.

Ep 5 he was also helped by Yoda to become stronger in the force, was advised not to go to an obvious trap set by Vader and again was fighting alongside the rebels. He also lost and nearly died in his encounter with Vader.

Ep 6 he willingly turned himself over to Vader so he could save his father and again, also nearly died to Palpatine. In every one of these instances he had help from the Rebel Alliance or his friends.

Luke in Ep 7 is alone, broken and hasn't seen anybody hes aided in years. Luke somehow being on Starkiller Base to help them, when he knows Ren is there along with millions of troopers and no knowledge of his friends being there would not have made sense from a plot standpoint. At least until Ep 8 sheds some potential light on things.

Wait who said dying, would've sucked if he died there, just saving them.

Yeah.

@vaas: True that he had help but he wanted to help the rebels stop the empire, he doesn't need army to bail out a handful of people, and in every occasion he was going against overlwhelming odds even with help, Luke never went "nah we'll never make it" and peaced out.

Him knowing that they were there doesn't have to be far fetched at all, they could've given an explanation for it if they wanted, I mean compared to Finn and Poe who happened to land exactly near Rey's village out of all places, Rey knowing Jedi mind tricks randomly, Rey being having a better force pull than Kylo, the Alliance letting the First Order freely build their uber death star. Rey randomly stumbling into Luke's lightsaber in a cantina, "lack of explanation" is seemingly Ep7's least important concern.

Instead of what happened, Luke might have a droid feeding him information so that he can keep away from the FO but he won't stand down and let his friends die like that if he found out, maybe he just felt a disturbance in the force, wouldn't be even be in the top 5 of most idiotical things that happened in TFA. Just a random example of things could've been, not that it would have fit perfectly the movie that we actually got. Don't know I guess I just can't get behind Luke being turned into such a coward in the sequel, letting all his friends die and the galaxy go to hell while he is brooding in his cave...

It would have been cool if he saved them right before Kylo Ren killed them, and brought them back to his planet. It would have been better than having a Sith Lord lose to someone with no training at all with using a lightsaber.

I think it would have been better if George Lucas had more creative control over it and it wasn't made by Disney.

The only thing that could save SW: Force Awakens is shooting Kylo Ren in his crib.
