Poll Would Superman be more capable than Batman in fixing Gotham's problems? (61 votes)

Yes, Superman would fare better than Batman does in trying to save Gotham 51%
Superman wouldn't fare any better or worse than Batman does in trying to save Gotham 21%
No, Superman would actually make problems worse in trying to save Gotham 25%
I don't know 3%

What do you think?

Any stories back in the past about Superman trying to save Gotham? Maybe they can be used as "feats" (lol)

How would Superman's powers, character and personality fare in Gotham? If Superman was in Batman's place, do you think he would make Gotham a better place than Batman ever does?

Discuss!

Anyone would be more capable than Batman. The moron is the catalyst for all that's wrong with Gotham.

I am saying he wouldn't make it all that different. Sure, he might be able to more easily round up and scare off Batman's enemies. But the problem will then be when people who don't like Superman show up in Gotham rather than Metropolis, like Lobo, Kalibak, Zod and Brainiac, so you've ended up trading one kind of problem for another... one the GCPD isn't going to be able to handle as well as the cops in Metropolis (because they've gotten used to it).

I wonder why people keep bringing up the injustice arc making seem like that's the way he'll always ends up, while we look at the kingdom come arc, he didn't get corrupted and fall. So yeah imo he would make gotham better.

No. The thing about Batman is that his concept of fear works best in that city. I think there have been comics depicting Gotham's view of Superman and IIRC they either didn't like him, didn't fear him or both. Batman just works because he was created from that city. He's connected to it. Superman is... not.

He'd do worse as he isn't a detective so most of the problems would be over his head. I feel the Joker would also get to Superman more than he does Batman.

It would take years for him to learn Gotham like Batman does and just as long to learn his detective skills, worse for a while, equal for a bit, better eventually.

Superman is a floating sonar device with X-ray vision that can hear and see everything from across the city with pinpoint accuracy.

His ability as a detective is more than sufficient.

The real problem is that Gotham can't get better. The people there are corrupt, and neither Superman nor Batman can change that. It's just how the city is written.

What you need is Martian Manhunter to go in and re-write everyone's brains so they stop being terrible people.

No Gotham is a different beast than metropolis. He doesn't have the experience handling organized crime. He will stop them but the city is too corrupt. The criminals have their hands in the book that Superman goes by. They are a different kind of criminal, it's usual not a case of go beat em up

No. The only thing that people have criticised Batman for is that he doesn't kill and the criminals leep escaping and causing trouble. Well Superman doesn't kill either. He could catch the criminals as efficiently, maybe even more so, but ultimately he doesn't have any permanent solutions either.

To everyone saying Supes could better Gotham, I'd like to hear what exactly he would do different than Batman.

This pretty much it really depends on if the OP means Gotham villains in general and no outside bring ins or if it's just Superman moving to Gotham.

Characters like Grundy should give a fight though and I belive Ivy has caused problems before for the Man of Steel.

Well, lets put it this way; the Gotham regulars cant hurt him, and even if they got the entire city to do it, they cant just throw more henchmen at him in hopes to bring him down. This is ofc excluding the STAS scenario where one of them gets their hands on Kryptonite.

Very much depends on what version of Grundy you get, most of them however aren't really in Superman's league. Regarding Ivy... I seem to remember hearing alot about how Ivy's phermones working on Superman was a load of PIS, due to how he can walk through pretty much any toxic enviroment without aid and not suffer the slightest.

He clashes constantly with Intergang a world wide crime syndicate that makes Gotham's trash look like... well trash. Clark Kent has also exposed corruption many times with great success.

Batman's enemy is society, he needs to change the people of Gotham because they allow it to be a terrible city.
