As far as his children, it would hardly be unusual for a gay man to have children or a false marriage. Heck, he might even have had a "bearded" marriage just TO have children. Or Hell, his whole marriage and family could have just been a strategy.

At least in the New52, his character has only ever been really driven by either his children or the 'mission'. Assuming this wouldn't be a change that meant the loss of Rose and Joseph, then it would have basically no bearing. Like sure Slade could be gay, but romantic involvements haven't been a big part of his character so it's unlikely to change his arcs much. He's also pretty unlikeable, so if you're looking for a badass whose homosexuality actually makes for a relevant part of his character, then look to Midnighter.

I don't see how it would effect his awesomeness at all. His sexuality has never been important (other than to set up the family, but that doesn't effect how awesome he is as a character, just the types of stories told).

The way I see it is this: Should they change an already established character's sexuality? No of course not. But that's not the question. The question is essentially does his sexuality affect his badassery, which it does not. Those of you who can only see homosexuals for their bigoted stereotypes don't belong in intelligent discussions about characters. The most interesting aspect of Slade's life is his relationship with Addie, along with his kids. If he was gay he could still have kids I guess, but everything would be lessened.
