Because it was terrible. Just because some plot points were filled in doesn't mean the plot wasn't muddled, mundane, and miserable.
Superman and Batman have no damn character.
Superman is a broody bitch who pouts because Humans aren't sending him Hallmark thank you cards.
Batman is even more paranoid and less sane than normal to the point of dispassionately murdering low level crooks without a glimpse humanity or an idea of what the character is actually about. So much so that you could very easily swap him out with Punisher and no one would notice.
And Lois Lane is a flat out annoying plot vehicle like she was in the first film.
WHERE do you see the Masterpiece?
How did Superman and Batman have no character? They have more character than most superhero movies these days.
Superman wasn't brooding because humans weren't "sending him Hallmark thank you cards", but it was because humans were actually putting blame on him when things went haywire. Almost MCU Civil War style. He tries so hard but it never seems enough. And then there's Lex who schemed to drive the humans and him even further apart.
Batman has been crime fighting for so many years, he's seen the worst of humanity. He's even had his own Robin killed and he hangs up his uniform to remind himself of that. Like he said, after 20 years in Gotham, he's fallen so deep that he's become so extreme and vengeful. Yes, basically Punisher style, what's wrong with that? That's exactly what they want to portray. He wants to kill Superman because he doesn't believe in goodness anymore. And once again, Lex's schemes made it even worse.
It wasn't until the infamous Martha scene where Batman finally got reminded of his parents when Clark pleaded for his mother's life, where he "awakened" from years of brooding and hate, and remembered why he started crime-fighting. At that point it also humanized Clark as a man who wanted to save his mum. He didn't spare Clark because "their mums had the same name". You didn't mention that but I'm guessing you're one of those people anyway.
Of course in the end Superman pushes through once more and sacrifices himself, reigniting the hope in the world, and at the same time restored Batman's faith in humanity.
Lois Lane was an investigative journalist with a strong desire to expose the truth. Nothing she did was "plot vehicle". And the plot does have to unravel around someone's actions. Do you expect Superman and Batman to do their own things and the truth magically comes to light on its own?
Did you even watch the correct movie? Or did you sit there with popcorn and had Rotten Tomatoes goggles on?
