Because it is an anime. Is this your first anime or?
What does that suppose to mean, most anime designs are ugly with overly large eyes, and huge heads ridiculous hairstyle, with disproportionate head to neck ratio. Bleach does design better imo. Yes there are some like Jojo, Cowboy Bebop, FMA, and Black Lagoon, but Bleach just strike me as balance looking. I'm speaking in regards to manga, not just anime.
Ex.) Moeblobs are awful, it lacks a mixture of sharp angles and rough contrast, avoiding the nose all together even though it's the center of the face.
Ex.) Some mangaka aren't scared enough to just put a fucking dot in the middle of a character's face and call that a nose.
I don't like the oversimplification of characters, but I understand the reasons behind it. Time efficiency is important when illustrating a story, and you can't just constantly draw the 100% representation of the human face all the time, it's understandable, but don't shortcut the vital parts of developing the appearance of a art style. With that said I don't think all anime are ugly, I seperate "cute" from "attractive", being "Cute" doesn't mean it's an "attractive" art style, vice versa, for me that is.
Kubo like many other mangaka's balance this out, but for some reason something about Kubo's strike me as more appealing and eye candy, probably because he focus on also making the males good looking and vibrant rather than making them look like self-inserts and most wind up looking dull while the females have more variant in colors palette etc. Kishimoto does this as well, which I also appreciate, but again there's just something about the style of the design which ties back to the Topic. Why are every character so attractive in bleach, like by design and not art style, clothing choices ect?
It's a good hit or miss for me when it comes to character designs.
