Why didn't Dr. Strange use the Time Stone against Thanos in Infinity War?
Because he could have easily gotten out of it.
We saw Kaecilius and his followers break out of Strange’s spell about a minute into it.
I’m sure Thanos could have done it in seconds.

spam it
@jedixman:Then Stark is going to be a major factor in A4 , i guess but all i heard about CM becoming OP in her own movie or A4 LOL
Okay, maybe, I still just don't understand how Thanos would have obtained the stone if not for Strange giving it up. Just seems like plot convenice to me.
Dr Strange jobbed to Maw when he had the stone, and didn’t use the Time Stone against Thanos because there was no outcome of them winning while using it. In other words, PLOT lol.
@depinhom: Thanos in the comics is a fairly accomplished sorcerer, and in the MCU he knows more about the stones than presumably anyone else in the universe. I don't think it's far fetched to assume he'd be able to figure out a way to retrieve it. Hell he can probably use the Mind Gem and make Stephen bring it out.

Well, he didn't have the Mind Gem at the time, but okay, you may have a point.

Maybe it's like a video game, where Strange put the Stone in his inventory but if Thanos kills Stark then kills Strange, all his loot will drop out.
He knew it wouldn't work. The movie explicitly says this. He knew all scenarios where Thanos won, and I am sure one of those scenarios involved Strange using the stone. He did what he knew might work given one of a handful of possibilities.
This. It seemed fairly obvious too.
@ready_4_madness: thank you, all these back seat drivers need to pipe down
If I were to see over 14,000,000 different ways something were to play out against someone faster, stronger, tougher, smarter, and just overall better than me in every area for the sake of life as we know it and only one showed me winning, I would go down that route. Out of 14,000,000 there's no way at least several dozen possibilities didn't include the time stone.
@cosmicmuffin: You are a short little man. You don't know anything about the MCU.
@amonfire1776: Meaning what?
@depinhom: Why use a failed strategy based on what he saw?
@amonfire1776: When Iron Man said "you might want to put that stone in a safe place", Strange replied "I might want to use it".
He beat Dormammu with it. Why not Thanos?
@depinhom: Because Thanos can easily counter it with the reality stone...and he clearly was ready for him to use it.
@depinhom: Because Thanos can easily counter it with the reality stone...p
You don't know that. In fact, couldn't Strange use the Time Stone to go back to before Thanos ever even got the Reality Stone?
@depinhom: When has Strange ever shown he can use the time stone to time travel? And yes we do based on the fact that Thanos wondered why Strange didn't use the stone himself...
He obviously didn’t use it because in the futures he did they lost anyways, I doubt one stone could overpower 3.
Also the writers already said thanos wasn’t trying to kill anyone he didn’t have to, so maybe when strange tries to use the time stone thanos uses his 3 stones to their max also.
That would be the logical explanation.
@amonfire1776: Exactly. Thanos wondered why he didn't use it because he could have. He tried to use it again Maw, but was stopped.
