Aren’t they just crappy version of humans, that can only spread through biting and scratching? How do they beat a superior version of them? Us.

Through terror and sheer numbers.

@ifdcruledtheworld: How though? One Human soldier provided with their gun and enough ammo could take maybe 50 before they got to him, assuming they’ve boxed him, and he can’t just run.

Zombies don't have morals, Zombies don't care if they die, and their numbers in fiction are usually superior to the survivors.

This has always bugged me as well.

Most versions of zombies would be relatively easy for humans to beat, even if we were severely out numbered. They're ridiculously easy to manipulate, I mean you can literally make them go wherever you want to by causing noise. They're relatively slow and uncoordinated too and most versions of them can't even climb and would get stopped by a simple wall.

@baph: How did they beat the military for that to happen?

Because their is more of them than us as the first posts have mentioned, and unlike us, they dont need to scavenge or conserve their items such as: Food, ammo, weapons, and tools to survive. They just roam around without tiring and wont rest until they get us.

From what i know it usually starts by spreading the virus throughout the world so the military can't just nuke it to death, after that it keeps spreading and spreading more, doesn't make sense because in a real life situation it would be easier to deal with it because the virus is usually transmited by bite, but there are other Zombies in fiction that spread the virus in various ways and are smarter, stronger and faster. Usually Zombies are dumb and slow as hell though.

Zombie outbreaks wouldn't even be possible irl. Flies, maggots, vultures, desperate animals and decay accelerated by heat make them irrelevant on top of all the other reasons listed.

@baph: The virus I see as most viable was the walking dead one that was airborne and in everyone but it’s not like social media can’t immediately inform everyone.

Some zombies are more dangerous than others. Walkers from TWD aren't particularly dangerous in small numbers, but the ones in say, Dawn of the Dead (2004), were pretty fast and retained some level of intelligence.

This is why the TWD made zero sense, there's no way the world wouldn't have easily taken the zombies out in a matter of days. Even a mere child like Carl can kill them but the military was over run, makes no sense.

Idk why tanks or heavily armored vehicles don’t just destroy them all.

Like how does a zombie realistically fight against things like tanks, artillery, etc...

People gotta read World War Z. Conventional military tactics outright failed, and it realistically makes sense. It took time for humanity to learn how to properly fight back.

Prime example: they bombed the ever loving shit out of a horde....and it didn't kill them all. crippled them sure, even blasted off limbs, but the zombies kept coming. That would demoralize and un nerve any solider. Shoot them center mass? Waste of ammo. Again, it took time to properly fight back. Center mass had to be unlearned, and headshots had to be prioritized.

@emperorb777: @zaied:

The walkers could run at the beginning of the series, they became slow in the second season.

The clearly they didn't use enough bomb.

because the writing of whatever said so. It makes no sense for regular humanoid zombies to be that much of a threat. The super zombies and all that T-virus stuff,I get that.

Yes it does.

1. People would hesitate to kill friends and family

2.The average man is 5'9 somewhere under 200 pounds. Being overpowered is a real possibility in close quarters

3. Knives and other weapons could get stuck inside of the zombie while shooting bullets (which most people dont have) may only temporarily slow them down because sharpshooters are not common unless you practice a lot. So mentally that would freak a lot of people out

4. You can get swarmed

5. If zombies move any faster than shambles then without the proper endurance you may die

6. If they move around on their own then it's possible you may just turn a corner and they'll surprise you

7. Even if you're completely immune they could still wound you with bites and that could add up over time

@kidolio: Realistically a zombie virus could never happen since the military would quarantine and lockdown the first cities infected. Even fast zombies would get crushed since helicopters and planes are a sure-fire way to take them out without being reached.

And since most normal people can kill a zombie, civilians also make a massive dent.

Read WWZ though if you're interested in a realistic version of a "Walking Dead" zombie scenario.

It depends upon the type of zombie apocalypse you are dealing with, to be honest! The mainstream zombies that we generally hear about (Dumb, Slow, Infectious bite, Rotting Flesh) is not something that should take too long to beat. If it all originates from a ground zero patient in one part of the world, then quick action by the military and government should take them down. Strict quarantine measure along with extensive border patrol will ensure that the infection remains localized.

In the off chance that it does get spread around the world:
Most of the protective clothing worn by the military is already designed to ensure maximum effectiveness against knifing and cuts. Bites are going to have a much harder time getting through! Military bases around the world would transform into safe havens, considering the fact that they would have the best available defensive position, highest stored food rations, and of course large crates of ammunition. Armored vehicles means that you have a sure fire way of literally stepping over hordes uninterrupted and would help clean the streets quick. Other wise, naval military air craft carriers could help in bombing runs for hoards that number in the tens of thousands during a zombie exodus. Mountain bases will remain untouched, and if they have a fresh water source from mountainous glaciers then the military could easily set up a sustainable growing food supply. There are many more reasons why a zombie apocalypse cannot happen as easily depicted as shown in films, unless . . .

The only way a zombie apocalypse could cause proper global devastation is if:

  • The symptoms are lately developed. This will ensure that more people are infected in large numbers before the world can catch on the fact that zombies are starting to appear
  • The zombie virus holds a tiny bit of airborne capability. Will ensure that those that are in naval bases could get infected later on. Although, with the late showing symptoms of the pathogen, this could be unnecessary.
  • Faster + Stronger zombies (Should at least be able to out sprint our fastest human and be strong enough to be comparable to its human counterpart)
  • Pack hunting zombies (Makes them much harder to kill)
  • Photo-phobic zombies
  • Zero heat signature bodies
  • Infection on physical contact (Granted that the person does not clean themselves as fast as possible)
  • Zombies have a partial immunity to freezing temperatures of the north and mountain regions
  • Heightened senses for zombies (Able to sniff out scents like dogs, enhanced hearing, and infrared sight like vipers)
