Many of the slasher movies such as Halloween, Friday the 13th, Childs Play, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Scream have very boring one dimensional villains that have little or no personality and always violence for the sake of violence.

For a few of them (namely Michael Myers) the complete lack of human qualities is the appeal. That said, I have no idea how you could watch a Nightmare on Elm Street film and conclude Freddy Krueger had no personality.

With all that said, the general appeal of a slasher film is watching dumb people get killed in creative ways by cool looking villains. Some of them may try to go beyond the trope, but your average slasher film doesn't, and that's fine.

Because they don't care. Generally speaking, slasher movies aren't written with "well-developed characters" or "compelling villains" in mind as much as they're written with "blood, gore, and soft porn" in mind.

Well people (I don't know why) seem to like them like that. So the industry continues to make them like that. If they didn't make success, the industry would some making them so.

They are entertaining if done right. Freddy is a great example of this, Being one dimensional isn't a bad thing if the character is entertaining.

The villains get killed so many times they always get revived every sequel.

You mean the entire horror genre, right? Can’t remember the last good horror movie that didn’t rely on jump scares, retarded characters, or generic monsters/mass murderers.

The victims always make the worst choices, if they had the chance to defeat the villain. for some reason they fail at it.

At times when the victims do atleast knock the villains out, they just runaway rather than defeating them once and for all.

The final blow can be struck to end it. That Teenage girl on the first Friday the 13th knocked out Jasons mother Pamela Voorhees, she had the one chance to win, instead she was an idiot and just ran away.

@hyperfinn: Again, these are usually supernatural killers. I probably wouldn't risk going near a downed one myself and I don't necessarily think that's a stupid decision.

She knocked out Pamela Voorhees in that house, she could of ended the problem right there.

@hyperfinn: and then she ends the problem later when Pamela continues to chase after her, so I don’t know where the “one chance” stuff comes from

Like, when she’s left with no other choice, she chops her head off

In Childs Play 2, the doll Chucky ambushes teenage girl Kyle and forces her to drive him to the foster center where Andy has been sent. Kyle made Chucky fly out the Car window, she could of escaped him by driving off, instead she tries to run over him and it fails, than she is at knife point again by Chucky.

The main characters are such idiots in slasher movies, so pathetic they should be ashamed of themselves.

Because it's a cliché. The slasher movie always has to have a large body count before the last girl kills the villain.

Everytime the villain is killed, they always get revived by something random for the story. It just gets even more ridiculous.
