Anakin is too overshadowed by other Star Wars characters in terms of popularity. Vader, Yoda, Luke, etc.

More people have likely seen Anakin due to the success of Star Wars, but that does not mean he is as recognizable, or memorable.

However, Vegeta is a standout character, which should bump him above Anakin.

Most people will recognize Anakin from Revenge of the Sith. Which earned over $868 million worldwide in its first week.

By comparison the more recent Broly Movie had managed a worldwide total of over $116.5 million.

Each of these films had 2 films prior that slowly built up in success as they went onward, however, it is clear that Star War still grossed more Worldwide. But this does not directly mean that Anakin is more recognized than Vegeta.

Anakin's biggest issue is how he is simply overshadowed by other members. Obi Wan, Yoda, Windu, and Vader can all be argued as more memorable than the Anakin persona.

People can easily identify a Jedi, or a more common Jedi character. But Anakin is the most side-viewed main name Jedi. This is not about Star Wars vs DBZ it is about a guy whos identity gets thrown away because of his transformation into Darth Vader, compared to one of the easier to identify Saiyan Characters.

If you want to throw in Vader, than he slaughters Vegeta in popularity. However, Anakin is not as known.

Vegeta's ability to be a standout anime character should allow for him to overtake the representation of Darth Vader's hormonal youth days.

An argument could be made for Anakin though. This is not a wash. Solid topic.

Vader > vegeta > anakin. As stated above, anakin is overshadowed by a lot of other star wars characters.

Anakin obviously. Ask 100,000 random people and more of them will know who Anakin Skywalker is over Vegeta

Anakin isn't as well known as other SW characters but I bet he's still more known than Vegeta. DB isn't as much of a household/neighborhood thing as SW is.

Vegeta is obviously more iconic

Every gym rat, anime fan and kid from the 90s knows who Vegeta is.

Even people who don't like Dragon Ball know who Vegeta is

Darth Vader is way more well known then prequel Anakin

Should have made it Vegeta or Darth Vader, that would have been a closer match.

But in this one I pick the Saiyan prince.

I knew about Vegeta somewhat even when I hadn't watched DBZ or Star Wars.

When I started the prequels I was surprised when I found out it was an Anakin Skywalker story.

So yeah Vegeta

Anakin. That's just a fact.

1. Star Wars > Dragon Ball when it comes to popularity. A simple fact. I've never met a single person who wouldn't know what Star Wars is, or wouldn't recognize core characters, music etc. I meet people who never even heard of Dragon Ball, or can't distinguish it from other anime regularly.

2. Anakin is a protagonist of a major franchise of Hollywood movies. Vegeta is a secondary character in an anime TV show.

3. When it comes to how iconic they are in the context of their own lore, Anakin is once again an objectively superior choice. He is the chosen one. This is his story, his character arc. All original 6 movies are about him and his journey from a little boy to a redeemed villain. Vegeta is not even IN the original Dragon Ball. He appears later and follows the main protagonist as his shadow. He is not elementary to the story. Goku is. Vegeta is just his rival and friend, but outside of helping Goku along the way he is never they key element to any story. This is not about him, about his decisions, his character growth, his motivations. Everything is about Goku, and he is there always trying to catch up. His significance to the story and franchise, is infinitely lesser than that of Anakin.

4. If we asked people around the world to just say which one of these two characters they recognize and have ANY idea who they are or what franchise are they from - Vegeta or Anakin, and showed these two pictures:

I guarantee that Anakin would win in a lightslide. Even people who detest any kind of fiction and do not watch popular movies are gonna be like: - Oh, lightsaber, weird robes, it must be a star wars character. Meanwhile, Vegeta is just going to look like every manga character in the world to them.

Just Anakin Skywalker as a whole from the very beginning of his story when he was just a little boy to when he became Darth Vader at the end of Revenge Of The Sith.

1. The popularity of Star War only does so much, and not not much of a point here. The Revenge of the Sith only managed a roughly 6x that of Dragon Ball's 3rd recent Movie (Broly) worldwide. Sure Star Wars has more people, and has had more time to grow, but Anakin is overshadowed by his fella characters. Even in the prequels people recall characters like Obi Wan, Yoda, Windu, and arguably a few other, before Anakin. Anakin being apart of Vader also does not help him, since people are often to just think of Vader, rather than Anakin. Sure they are technically the same, but if you just view his time as Anakin, he is vastly less memorable than his Vader persona. Star Wars is no doubt bigger than Dragon Ball. But that does not mean much when comparing someone who publicly is secondary. While to many Vegeta is a main character: a show-stealer.

2. Covered in 1^

3. There is no denying how important Anakin is, however, we sadly have to remove his entire time as Vader, due to this just being his time prior to wearing his Black suit. Vegeta on the other hand was the first large villian in Dragon Ball Z. Sure he was not in the Original Dragon Ball, but that only boosts his popularity as many watched Z before Dragon Ball. Vegeta also is not a shadowed rival, (until DBS) he is actively an anti-hero, who also experiences the most character development in Dragon Ball. Vegeta was massively impactful in the Namek and Cell saga, as all his choices were changing how the Z-fighters and Villains had to 'play.' Remove Vegeta from Dragon Ball and it will be an entirely different story-you can absolutely say the same for Anakin/Vader-but disregarding Vegeta's impacts is false to his impact as a character. Even in DBS Vegeta is impactful as he is being built up to establish a relation with another universes Saiyans. Vegeta deserves more credit than what is presented here.

4. That is an odd example. The appearance of a Jedi is more recognized over a saiyan. However, that is not directly a Vegeta vs Anakin comparison. Heck if you swap their outfits people would think Vegeta is the jedi, and Anakin is [probably] a power ranger... which shows how the outfit is not the character. Vegeta at the very least is the main man to wear his attire, while Anakin is far from being the representation of that look (the jedi attire). People don't see the Jedi attire and think "Anakin!" heck no: they think of [many] other Jedi.

You can surely argue that Anakin is more popular, however, this was just... a poor argument. Half of it was comparing Star Wars success over Dragon Balls, which does not work as a direct argument for Anakin, due to him being a vastly overshadowed character: regardless of his role. While Vegeta is among the most recognizable anime characters worldwide. Vegeta is a quick thought for Dragon Ball, while Star Wars shares its popularity with a much more vast cast, making the thought of-the overshadowed-Anakin to be more distant. The other half of this was just poor representation of Vegeta, as if he were a minor character with little to no involvement or impact on the story: which is incorrect.

If this included the entire Vader persona, it would be an easy win for him.

Depends on what you mean by more iconic

Vegeta has more iconic moments then Prequel Akain

Akakin's most iconic moments were slicing up some kids and getting cut in half for having the lower ground

Vegeta's been around since the early 90s and has way better iconic moments

"It's over 9000!!!" quote

His fight with Goku. (Probably the most iconic fight in all of anime)

His Self Destruction against Buu

Vegeta stomps.

Now, if we were to go with Darth Vader, obviously him.

"No, Luke" I am your father!"

Is one of the most iconic quotes of all time

Darth Vader >> Vegeta >>>>>>Anakin
