Poll Who is more iconic: Superman or Darth Vader? (85 votes)
I'd definitely go with Darth Vader on this one.
I'd definitely go with Darth Vader on this one.
Supes stomps
Vader
Toss up imo. I think people are under selling Vader's iconism (is that word?). His helmet design in particular taking inspiration from the Stahlhelm is instantly recognizable.
Superman. Even kids in North Korea without any access to media know can recognize that red-and-yellow S (although over there he's portrayed as an agent of Kim Jong Un).
Superman is probably the worlds most Iconic hero.
Darth Vader is the most Iconic Movie Villain but thats probably it.
When you think films, you think Vador
When you think heroes, you think Superman.
When I was younger and didn't watch movies or read comics, I already knew the iconic image of the red cape and the infamous breathing through a black helmet.
Superman has been around since the 1930s and has countless appearances in all forms of medias even though Darth Vader is iconic he comes nowhere near the man of steel
Superman stomps. I didn't even know who Darth Vader was until I came to the US. None of my friends or relatives knew him either. However, we all knew who Superman, Batman and Spiderman were. In fact, I will argue, that Batman and Spiderman are far, far more iconic than Darth Vader as well if you are talking about the entire world, not just America, Europe and few other countries.
Tough one who is more Iconic Batman IR Superman???
Who is more Iconic Vader or Joker? Vader usually wins second place just behind Joker for most Ironic villian, does supes come second likewise to Batman??? Toss up
Superman by far. Darth Vader is Iconic, but nowhere in Superman's League.
Superman is probably the worlds most Iconic hero.
Darth Vader is the most Iconic Movie Villain but thats probably it.
I agree Superman is more iconic, but Vader is more than just most iconic movie villain.
I don't know why people on this site believe that Superman is so iconic world-wide.
Superman is only iconic in the USA.
@jasonhawke: superman is iconic worldwide even in rural remote villages with no media they know of superman everyone can easily recognize supermans chest symbol
Superman stomps. His S is one of the most recognizable symbols in the world.
I actually think it's the most globally recognized, non-religious symbol
@jasonhawke: I could say the same for Vader. Superman's symbol is one of the most recognizable ones in the world. He has sold more comic books then any other character. The entire Superhero archetype is based on Superman. Vader is iconic, but he isn't on the level of Superman.

Well, I don't know about that. The American flag, the Coca Cola logo, and the McDonalds 'M' probably have it beat.
Superman is much older. He has about 4 decades on Darth and has far more media appearances total; multiple tv shows, movies, comics and (correct me if I am wrong), I think there was even a radio show.
Only one person is really well known for playing Darth Vader but there have been a lot of famous Superman actors; George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Henry Cavill and even Dean Cain (there is no link for him, sorry).
Superman is arguably one of the most iconic characters in all of fiction.
And Vader isn't?
