Who is generally regarded as the Number 2 Marvel character behind Spiderman?

Spider-Man sells more merchandise than the Avengers, Superman, and Batman combined, so whomever is #2 in Marvel is laughably far behind.

I would be surprised if it still isn't the Hulk. Other than Spider-Man, he was the only big name Marvel had prior to Marvel Studios.

Hulk then maybe Wolverine

Wolverine, if we include the Fox films. He is internationally known thanks to Hugh Jackman.

True, but I would say he still wasn't on level with the Justice League or the Bat-family. Spider-Man and the Hulk were always relevant, in that the average person could've easily known of them.

@anthp2000: I guess that's fair. Though in the case of Hulk I think a large part of that was due to the 1970s television series with Bill Bixby.

Hulk or Wolverine. Perhaps Iron man as well.

I honestly don't know with these questions a lot of the time though, with Marvel in particular. The MCU has had a major effect in pop culture compared to almost everything else these companies have put out, so in a few years it wouldn't surprise me if Iron Man is as well known as these superheroes, but it's hard to say right now when you think that people in their 40s and over, who more than likely know of Spider-Man and the Hulk from classic comics and television, might have no idea what these movies are even about.

Captain America being as known as Wolverine is questionable.

Yeah true. Though I think Wolverine was comfortably elevated to Hulk level. My dad is in his mid 50s and he knows of Wolverine because of Hugh given that he first played the role 20+ years ago.

1. Spider-Man
2. Hulk
3. Wolverine

Iron Man is probably no4. Thor might be there because of the norse myth.

2nd is definitely Iron Man or Wolvie.

Wolverine, in my opinion, but Hulk is more popular.

But both Hulk and Iron Man have been getting more and more popular as the years go by.

Cap is not getting nearly as much credit as I thought. I hear him get referenced in old TV shows all the time.

Back in the 90’s/00’s it was Wolverine/XMEN and then the Hulk. Today I’m not so sure. Post-2008 the “Avenger” characters exploded, so Wolverine and Hulk might not be as on as they use too

Back in the day it was undoubtley the X-men as a brand I guess if you want a specific character Wolverine ( There's a reason they've got the most games and movies only behind Spider-Man) But now adays thanks to the MCU and overall lack of love the X-men have gotten due to overall power coverage outside of comics one could argue Ironman

Now, idk…I still think Hulk & Wolverine have their ICONIC status, but the MCU has had such an impact in making the Big 3 in particular massive hits across the board. I guess I’d go with Iron Man since he’s been “the face” of that.

Thor’s always been relatively known, due in part to him being a mythological figure & Cap has always been an ICON. He was Marvel’s “3rd leg” so to speak from the 60’s-90’s before Wolverine hit his big boom & Cap fell out of favour (until the MCU) but Cap’s never been….like Spider-Man level. He’s just been consistently in the upper echelon but not THE TOP of said Pyramid.
