Poll Who has the best villains after Batman and Spider-Man? (56 votes)

Superman 39%
Hulk 0%
Captain America 4%
Flash 21%
Wonder Woman 0%
Thor 13%
Green Lantern 5%
Aquaman 0%
Iron Man 4%
Other 14%

I think most of us can agree that Batman and Spider-Man have the best villains. It's arguable whose is the best, but both are undoubtedly 1st and 2nd when it comes to rogues' gallery. But who would take the bronze medal?

I vote Superman because of Lex and Brainiac, even though Flash has a colourful rogues gallery too.

Exactly, Smallville Lex is enough.

Superman has a pretty loaded rouges gallery so him.

Every other hero besides the big 3 doesn't have that many great villains. Usually just 1 or 2.

Nah.

Sups ain't got much beyond Brainiac and Lex. I'd say 90% of it is barebones and/or bad.

X-Men villains.

Thor out the list though tbh. Loki, Mangog, Gorr, Hela, Malekith, Enchantress, etc. Actually, Flash has some great villains too, but outside of other speedsters, it's hard to take some of them seriously as threats.

From these choices, Flash!

Hot take Superman's rogues are mostly overrated. :P

The villains of Cosmic Marvel are fantastic, though they don't really belong to any one hero. I've always been a big fan of the Fantastic Four's villains though that's probably because it has so much overlap in the cosmic realm.

Loki, Mangog, Gorr, Hela, Malekith, Enchantress, Dario Agger and several more.

Thor's villains are elite. Most of Spidey villains aren't interesting, just lame.

Hela has no interesting character traits.

Malekith is a boring B-plot character whom to my knowledge is just a budget Loki.

Enchantress is decent, I guess. Better than the Spider-Man roster in terms of characterisation? Nah.

I've never thought much of Spider-Man's rogues gallery. For the most part it's just a bunch of criminals that have some silly science accident and decide dress up like, and name themselves, after an animal, or become a Goblin of some sort. I always thought they were mostly kind of corny to be completely honest. There are some good ones though. Sandman was cool.

X-Men and Batman have the best villains.

Superman's is also kewl with Luthor, Brainiac, Darkseid, Zod, Lobo, Myxzptlk, Bizarro etc. Green Lantern and Flash also have some good ones. I just think DC has overall better villains than Marvel though.

Iron Man's is pretty considerable but under utilized. He has everything from enemies of the corporate world, to alien dragons, to shit like MODOK.

Based on my own opinion, I'd say Aquaman.

Objectively tho, it's a different case. Aquaman only has Black Manta and Ocean Master as recurring villains, and while I love them, it's not the general consensus. Same goes for Wonder Woman (Cheetah, Circe, Ares), Iron Man (The Mandarin, Iron Monger), Captain America (Red Skull, Zemo, Crossbones) and Hulk (Abomination, Leader). Cool and the gang on their own, but not striking in quality and quantity.

Out of the ones left, I think Thor has the shittiest end of the stick. He has a couple of cool villains and a lot of them at that, but tbh, most are extremely mediocre outside of some of the better stories. Plus, Aaron ruined a lot of Thor villains like Mangog, Malekith etc.

So with Superman, Flash and Green Lantern left I'd say Superman. Not because I think his villains are the best, but because of the lack of originality for the other two. The Flash has like, speedster villains and the Rogues, who are original villains, but they are all he has. Literally every notable Green Lantern villain belongs to a Lantern Corps, which is an original concept on it's own, but I feel like the Corps should have other cool villains not tied to the emotional spectrum.

Superman has a wide variety of villains such as Brainiac, Doomsday, Lex Luthor, General Zod, Parasite, Cyborg Superman etc. I feel like each of them is fleshed out and all of them are different sorts of characters.

@professorrespect: Ulik? Surtur? Malekith?

All of those are pretty genetic. I guess Surtur has the coolness factor but...anything else worth mentioning? Ulik from me reading him just comes up as a dumb brick. Malekith reads like Loki, basically.

Unfair to be reductive to Flash's villains to Rogues+ speedsters (which isn't true) and then mention Superman when: Doomsday, Cyborg Superman, Bizarro fit the 'anti-superman' category.

What good villains does Flash have that are not Rogues or speedsters?

Also, I wouldn't necessarily put guys like Cyborg Superman in the anti-Superman category, especially since the other two you have there are basically just dumb bricks which Henshaw isn't.

I’d probably say the X-men. Magneto is hard to beat. Add guys like Juggernaut, Oliver Trask, Apocalypse, Mr Sinister etc and it gets my vote. Honestly Magneto probably solos a lot of rogues gallery’s here on his own.

@mrsyg: Gorilla Grodd, Turtle see Flash: year one, Bloodwork, Tornado Twins, Dr Alchemy, Piper, Abra Kadabra, Shade and the goat: Papercut.

Cyborg Superman does fit, Bizarro is designed as inverse Superman and Doomsday being a dumb brick doesn't exactly change anything. If we're continuing this game General Zod is another 😊

Generic refers to no character. Uilk has no character. He's basically just a brute.

"animal themed bank robbers" is a good way to lowball also. I get that your opinion might be based around what's "cool" instead of characterisation, but calling guys like Rhino or Sandman stuff like that doesn't help your case, especially when articles like Flowers for Rhino or Marko's redemption arc recently completely run over any sliver of characterisation most of Thor's rogues have.

Half of those have been Rogues at some point, but fair enough. You proved your point. I'm still convinced Superman has the better rogue gallery objectively.

Yeah because the point of the Rogues is all his villains teaming up. It's like simplifying Magneto to just the Brotherhood and making no distinction between him and Toad.
