Sentry is not that much like Superman. Hyperion is more alike.

Also all of Squadron Supreme are modeled after DC characters, most of the Imperial Guard are Legion analogues and the Extremists are modeled after Marvel characters.

Fantastic Four was made because of the Justice League. But I guess they're quite different.

Theory of A Deadman does sound a LOT like Nickelback.

Both were ment to be takes on Superman. The Sentry was supposed to be a long lost character that was Marvel's answer to Superman. His costume even includes a giant "S" on it.
