Both disappointed me, but I guess Logan was the better movie. It had more going on, while War had like 30 minutes of fat.
@sladerulez: this is difficult for me. I have never been a passionate wolverine fan, but jackman over the years has won me over. I began to look forward to his movies and enjoyed every one (even origins for the most part). With that said, I knew the final result of Logan (though not how exactly) before I went to see it. It still hit me hard. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire movie and was very sad to see it end the way it did, but it felt right and that made a lasting impression on me. It didn't feel forced or anything to that degree and that helped the movie.
in regards to PotA, I am an avid fan of the originals, and was very excited for the new series. I also came into this knowing what was going to happen in the end of Ceasar's story. The series has been (in my opinion) vastly under-recognized/appreciated. I came into War expecting an amazing, beautiful, emotional story. It delivered on all fronts, plus added some situational comedy that I enjoyed to a degree as well. I was enthralled from beginning to end, and once I realized the end was near, my heart grew heavy.
With all this said, I would have to lean towards PotA. I told my wife in the theater and elaborated afterward, that Ceasar had more emotion and development over this trilogy than most beloved human characters have in entire franchises or hard hitting Hollywood dramas. I think that goes a long way in testament to Andy Serkis' ability to emotionally develop a non-human character (for Gollum as well). I hope they progress the Apes saga with more input post-Ceasar, as I think it has been executed to near perfection. PotA has left me wanting/needing more, whereas Logan made me content to never see another Wolvie movie again and still have fond memories.
War by a bit it had a better villain, much more growth for Caesar in just 3 films, a better soundtrack, and breathtaking cinematography. Logan is still in my top 10 though for 2017
It’s close. Both are great.
War for the Planet of the Apes.
Logan was great, but it's just a rip off of "1953's Shane" and "The Last Of Us".
