R1: KFV. Easily. Put any of the other two iterations of Vader up against him, and he still tools them. By KFV, he was a solid nine (albeit mentally not on the level of the titans and thus would lose to them). Vader at his peak is a top tier 8/8.5, around Dooku's level, maybe a little higher.

KFV >> unhindered ROTJ Vader > ESB Vader >> TFU Vader >> ANH Vader.

R2: Depends how you look at it. Rebels was his emotional - and thus combative - prime but it's not his most powerful overall. In raw (not necessarily combat applicable) power, ROTJ is by far the strongest.

R1: In legends it's Knightfall Vader no doubt.

R2: Canon has been sort of pushing the idea that Suit Vader>>>Pre Suit Vader, so I'd probably go with ROTJ Vader here.

In the films I'd say Empire Strikes Back was Vader in his prime. Legends is a different beast all together. I wouldn't even know where to begin.

"Many years later, Obi-Wan and Darth Vader duel a second time. The Sith Lord is now more experienced and powerful." - Beware The Sith

“In his duel against Darth Vader on Bespin, Luke Skywalker reveals himself as an extraordinarily gifted artist with the blade who has largely taught himself. After a single brief session with Obi-Wan Kenobi years ago, and only a short time with Yoda, Skywalker is able to hold up against a Dark Lord of the Sith at the height of his powers.” - Insider 62.

His power was great, now, greater than it had ever been.” - Return of the Jedi.

More powerful in the Force than ever before as well as a master of the lightsaber, Darth Vader prepares for his final battle as the Rebel fleet hammers the fully operational Death Star.” - Darth Vader Return of Anakin Skywalker.

Legends: Knightfall Vader, because Legends Vader is kind of weak with the suit.

Canon: Vader's most impressive showings are around the time of A New Hope, so I'll go with that. Vader Down, which has his most impressive showing by far, was right in between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back.

Legends MFV is the most powerful. So KFV since it's the closest here.

One of the things Disney did right was making suited Vader > Episode 3 emo boy.

I disagree. I think KFV should be his prime. It makes more sense story wise. Suited Vader should still be powerful tho.

@darthadi: Its interesting to me. When I first watched SW as a kid, I just assumed that suited Vader was stronger because he was more experienced. When I first came to this site around 12 years ago (when legends was still active), I was told that this was wrong and that ROTS was his prime. So I had to "unlearn" all of that in a way.

Then the disney buyout happened and they went with making suited Vader more powerful.

I do like Hayden Christensen, and I'm excited to see him return for the Obi show, but suited Vader has moments like this which make more bias for him lol.

@frozen: Sure, I like Vader to be a badass (this is why i don't like the ideea of Vader being sub TPM Kenobi), but story wise KFV being more powerful makes more sense (otherwise you can get nonsensical scaling like ROTJ Luke>KFV) and it works thematically better imo.

The idea of Vader being sub TPM Kenobi (which I don't believe is true anyway but that's another discussion so I'll leave it out) doesn't even seem like good storytelling. I've seen people try to say its poetic, but it comes across as incredibly dumb and disrespectful to Vader as a character.

I understand Vader being below KFV though. How much below him do you think he should be though?
