Poll Which tragic scenes feel sadder? Those in Man of Steel (2013), or that of Robocop (1987)? (38 votes)
Man of Steel (2013) and Robocop (1987) are very different films, but both feature a tragedy (or two) relating to the main character.
For your recap, I put forth a description and some sample clips:
Man of Steel (2013) in particular features two tragedies as described:
Among his troubles trying to integrate with humanity, Clark Kent had recalled a scene where his adoptive father does not want him to risk his identity saving him from a tornado, and so while Clark hesitates, his father perished in the tornado.
Afterwards, Superman managed to overpower Zod but somehow was forced to kill him in order to save a family in distress, therefore making him a killer of the only other known Kryptonian survivor.
Robocop (1987)'s tragedy is itself a theme that encompasses the entire film overall, but the key scenes that emphasize the tragedy are:
Robocop begins to recall parts of his past life and find out about who Murphy is. He went to Murphy's old house and learnt that Murphy used to have a loving family and it seems that after his death, they sold off the house. Robocop in his rage began a rampage against his killers (Which is the shootout scene against the Boddicker gang not featured in the above clip).
Robocop took off his mask for the first time, revealing that Murphy's face was grafted onto his now-robotic skull, and very little of his humanity (Besides his brain) remained. Knowing he could no longer get his past back, he had his own moment of silence.
So which character's tragedy was sadder? Discuss.
