Which of theses films was superior in your opinion and why? What aspects(characters, writing, plot, music, animation) did you think was done better?
But, if I had to choose between just these two, I prefer Tangled. I like the songs in Tangled more than those in Frozen...and yes, "Do you want to build a snowman" is "Papa can you hear me" from Yentl. Come to think of it, a lot of these Disney princess movies open with a similar style of song which introduce us to the heroine's dreams and aspirations:
- Tangled opened with "When will my Life Begin"
- Frozen had "For the First Time in Forever"
- Moana started with "How Far I'll Go"
- The Princess and the Frog had "Almost There"
- Pocahontas sang "Just Around the Riverbend"
- Ariel's first song from The Little Mermaid was "Part of Your World"
- Even 1937's Snow White starts with "I'm Wishing"
On the other hand, I think it's interesting that Beauty and the Beast's "Belle" and Mulan's "Honor to Us All" are less about the heroine's desires and more about how the community's expectations for the heroine, although even in these songs the ladies have their own opinions. Belle adds "there must be more to this provincial life..." and Mulan pleads "help me not to make a fool of me...". For the latter, her ambition song immediately follows "Honor to Us All" with "Reflections".
Out of the Disney cgi princess movies, I say Moana. But out of this I say Tangled. The characters were more fun, and it felt less cliched when they try to subvert princess trope that has already been done to death. I like Frozen, but I never thought it was all that great.
Frozen was the most overrated Disney movie in a long time. In fact, when it first came out the reviews for it were overhyping it and even referred to it as being as good as the Lion King and “the best Disney movie since“, which I strongly disagree with.
