Moebius for me, and no disrespect to John Byrne or this beloved medium, but I'm not really a big fan of the classic style of comic book art. I prefer anything with a distinctive art style, something unique.

Haven't seen Moebius' work, but by those pictures I have to go with Byrne. I don't like artstyles that put too much detail. It makes the pictures feel more messy imo.

@rukelnikovftw: Without him, Frank Quitely's style, Blade Runner and The Fifth Element would've been very different today.

@rukelnikovftw: you are disrespecting him.

John Byrne is a masterful story teller, and a much better artist. yes Moebius' work is beautiful and unique but he is not the talent that Byrne is.

Byrne's work has influenced just about everything we see in superhero movies today: Superman, Wonder Woman, The Hulk, The Avengers, The Xmen, The Fantastic Four. Every film maker that checked the source materials in comics, came across Byrne's work and visuals and they referenced it I'm sure. In a big way or small way, Byrne's influence in comics cannot be denied. His version of every superhero is also regal and powerful. They jump off the page, not to mention his meticulous backgrounds and scenery, either in a living room, the kingdom of Atlantis, or the surface of the moon, Byrne does it all... ALL!

Consider how many books Byrned dished out in his career, on time! Yes Moebius did his thing too, but he didn't deliver iconic storylines on time like Byrne did. I could go on but there's more than just making beautiful pin ups to be considered one of the greats, is all I'm saying.

@blackdog2009: @ghostodoofus2: He may have worked in more places, and maybe his vision is superior to Giraud's, but just looking at the pictures presented here, there's no comparison on their talent when it comes to actually drawing.

I always found Morbius’s art mesmerizing. I like Byrne especially on The Fantastic Four, She-Hulk and Superman, but Moebius’s art has a dream-like quality that exceeds what we expect from comic books. His work is wonderful.

@blackdog2009: Byrne may be more talented overall and more influential as a comic book creator having excelled both as an artist and a writer but this poll compares them purely as artists.

@blackdog2009: If you want to bring up scenery, Moebius was no slouch either.

@rukelnikovftw: *was, he passed away aged 73 in 2012 unfortunately :(

Yeah he's amazing, I've not read much of his works because they are hard to find in English but I've looked through a lot of his artworks on Google and they're incredible.
