Hmm... I dunno about John... I mean, sure he might be the black hero you like the most but the best black hero?
I mean, how many superheroes have screwed up so badly the population of an entire planet got killed? (Not to mention all the GLs who got wasted by Yrra Cynril when she found out would still be alive if he hadn't messed up).
IMO, his mistakes make him interesting. He is the one I find most relatable. IMO John is the best.
The Black Panther natch- not only is the first black hero(at least in Marvel terms), but he's as handsome as Sidney Poitier/Denzel Washington, as smart as Reed Richards(or nearly so), and as rich as Tony Stark- he's not just a hero but a King in his own right, easily the equivalent of the President of the United States or the Sovereign of the United Kingdom!
Point taken, in that regard I'd agree, carrying the guilt of Xanshi made him into a very complex character, I spoke too soon.
Plus thinking about it now, he did redeem himself in epic style during Blackest Night, not many heroes have had to fight the population of an entire planet... solo.
In fact that's actually one of my favorite moments in BN tbh... Jeez, I really spoke too soon.

Sure he is an alternate version but he is not a carbon copy of 616 Fury, he is a unique character so he counts. Nobody besides you said that alternate versions didn't count.

Pretty much every one I could think of has been named already. I think Ultimate Nick Fury would count because the look of the character was based off of Samuel Jackson so his personality and mannerisms weren't meant to mirror the original. I was thinking about Icon because even though he is an alien he lived as black man since slavery was in effect. Heck even when the break in at his home occurred that eventually lead to him being a hero he was "mistaken" for being the butler. I'm glad that are good black super heroes out there. Thanks to great artists and writers and can say there are great black super heroes out there: Storm, Luke Cage, Black Panther, Black Lightning, John Stewart, Rocket, Static, War Machine, Blade, Vixen, Photon, etc I could go on for a while but in the end much like black history month the list would end up being too short in my opinion.
Of course, when we can move past the classification "Black", or even past celebrating Black History Month, we know civil rights will not have been a complete failure.
I don't have a favorite "Black" superhero, any more than I have any favorite White, Asian or Mexican friends.
I can say Blue Marvel is my third favorite superhero of all time, behind the Silver Surfer and Thor.

Prodigy!! And Storm, War Machine, Black Panther, Static, Darwin, Cloak, Bishop, Cyborg, John Stewart (Green Lantern), Spawn, Cipher, Heather Hudson... lol If I were to put them in order though... Storm would definitely be #1, followed by Static, Cloak, Cipher, Prodigy, War Machine, Darwin, John Stewart, Bishop, Cyborg, Black Panther, Spawn, and then Heather Hudson. I think. My top 5 are definite.

I agree, he's the only Green Lantern I really like. The others I find boring, intolerable, or I only mildly like lol. But I'll admit I'm not well-versed on Green Lanterns, I've only read a few. Most of my knowledge is from listening to friends argue about and discuss the series, and what I've read online lol
