What will be highest grossing film of 2023?
This is between Dune, John Wick, Spiderverse, Oppenheimer, Creed, GoTG3, or the untouchable masterpiece that is Barbie.
Everything else is probably going to be mediocre or decent at best (And that especially goes for the rest of the MCU/DCEU products)
People here are really underestimating Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny's potential.
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull made almost $800 million, and this is back in 2008 when such grosses were pretty rare (for reference, it's the 2nd highest grossing movie of 2008), and all of this happened despite a pitiful "B" Cinemascore from audience polling.
If Dial of Destiny is even just okay, I could see it being next year's highest grossing movie.
Also, and no offense OP, but these poll options are jack.
How was Aqauaman and the Lost Kingdom not even an option when the first Aquaman made over $1.1 billion?
How was neither Fast X or Mission Impossible-Dead Reckoning Part One options despite their consistent successes?
And how on Earth did "Barbie" did added as a poll option in the first place?
Seriousuly OP, "Other" is doing some really heavy lifting here.
@mrmonster: I didn't want the poll to be exclusively superhero flicks so I picked just one each from marvel and DC.
Also, Aquaman and pretty much most of the yet to be released DC flicks will likely underperform if DC does in fact do a full reboot. General Audience will understandably not see the point in going to watch something which will not be followed up on. Flash at least will likely have spectacle, nostalgia and good word of mouth to fall back on without the DC brand.
Also, I hate polls with an excessive amount of options, hence why my polls tend to have limited by broad options
Reasons?
Disney + Marvel
As much as I love the franchise, Don't really think Dune belongs in that list. The first film didn't even make three times of its budget. (165 to 401 million dollars)
Spider-Man or Guardians of the Galaxy
Reasons?
Disney + Marvel
Not necessarily reason enough.
Look at Thor: Love & Thunder and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Both of which grossed under $1.0billion.
Probably Mario or Spider-Man 2.
Fast X won't make 700M+ in two weeks, Indiana Jones will flop cuz bad reviews, Barbie obviously won't pass billion, Nolan movies usually don't pass 1B, Dune can't jump to 1.2B+ from 400M, Mission Impossible has a chance because of current Tom Cruise hype but not sure. All CBMs won't come nowhere clear close Mario due to superhero fatigue, and not like they had chance because Aquaman, Captain Marvel, Kraven or Flash can't make that much money anyway lol. Transformers is a mystery since Idk how devoted its fanbase is.
Honestly?
Might be transformers. It was like the third most watched trailer in the world.
Seriously?
Honestly?
Might be transformers. It was like the third most watched trailer in the world.
Seriously?
Well, well, well
“The first teaser trailer for “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” has become one of the most-watched trailers ever.
The first look at the Steve Caple Jr.-directed sci-fi actioner earned 494 million global, cross-platform views in the first week, according toParamount. That was well above the other big trailers released last Thursday (courtesy ofCcxp), namely “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” (182 million) and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” (77 million).
Measured viewership was at 238 million on day one alone, above any previous theatrical trailer in Paramount’s history, and in fourth place for that first 24-hour cycle behind only the second “Avengers: Endgame” trailer (268 million), the first “Avengers: Endgame” trailer (289 million) and the first trailer toSony’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (355.5 million).”
Probably no one's dethroning Mario this year
Probably Shazam
Bruh... this aged as badly as milk 🤣
Shazam ended its run at $130M, barely over its production budget and far from enough to cover marketing and distribution expenses plus taxes lol
Probably Shazam
Lmao. A DC movie and Shazam at that? 😂
@arctika: This aged terribly

Not as terribly as your math apparently.😋

Mario is still leading of the two and besides the year isn't even over yet?? Something else can break both for all we know. Either way whether Barbie makes more than Mario is irrelevant since Mario is clearly the better movie of the two that's all that matters. Prior to this movie nobody cared about Barbie let's be real here.

@arctika: You say this like an 84% isn't a solid score?
@money_brings_happiness: I never said 84% was bad but It's not as good as 95%?
Wouldn't have expected it to be Barbie, lol. Hope Super Mario Bros. movie retains the #1 position tho
@darkrealm: lol why hate the Mario? 😋lol I don't think anyone felt Mario or Barbie would break a billion 😂 guess we'll see though what happens.
@noobsnowman: your into marvel/mcu films?
@arctika: I fw Mario I just want it to be dethroned because I want it raining salt if it ever gets dethrone by Barbie. It’s not usual for something like Barbie to be a massive success so I’m curious see to how this plays out. I know this is gonna be a stretch but I wonder if it’ll hit 2B 🤔
@darkrealm: Surprisingly I'm not that crazy about it.
But both films are just really well made.
@darkrealm: it is actually unusual for something like barbie to be a hit. it’s the first female directed film to ever reach a billion. that’s certainly unprecedented. these films marketed towards women don’t usually do anywhere near this level of success.
@emmafrostxmen: Yep sadly it’s really unfortunate. I’m really glad that this movie is doing good as it is a massive success for women. I have yet to see the film and I’m not paying for it so I plan watching on my bootleg ghetto website. However if it does end up being good I will be watching it over and over to give it a chance to pass Mario lol.
@noobsnowman: That’s interesting I’ve never seen you on a marvel thread or something outside of Dragon ball let alone a thread about Barbie lol.
