What non-CB fictional characters do you think can lift Mjolnir?

Basically the thread title.

No Western comic book characters, be it comic or live-action.

Manga/anime and all other forms of fiction is allowed.

You know what, if you think any real life person can do that, name them too.

No Viners allowed.

Comic Mjolnir and MCU Mjolnir seem to have the same requirements, so no difference there.

If you think there are people can lift it without being worthy via some other method, split them into a different section.

Back up all your choices with reasons if possible.

To get the ball rolling, I'd probably think Goku would definitely be worthy of lifting Mjolnir.

Son Goku is usually my go-to choice. I think he makes a perfect candidate for the hammer’s specifications.

For an alternate answer I think Snake from the Metal Gear series was worthy of Mjolnir at several points. He was clearly willing to die for his ideals, but he also understands the weight of that because he is usually trying fiercely to protect his life. He has also understood in the past that certain weapons are too much for human hands. He can see the hammer as the weapon of mass destruction that it is and will only use it as a last resort for an extremely righteous cause (or at least what he perceives to be a righteous cause which is all Mjolnir asks for). These are all important qualifications for being worthy. He isn’t worthy all the time though.

I guess those "idealistic" heroes. Arthur, Aragorn, Beowulf....etc
There is also difference between lifting it and using it...just so you know.

I still don't get what the Hammer wants in a host.

A lot of what I'm seeing in this thread could be attributed to Tony stark or Superman but neither can lift it under normal circumstances.

@the_hajduk: I would say that you are completely wrong. Goku is never going to lift Mjolnir.

@byondeon: What do you think the requirements for lifting Mjolnir are?

Avatar image for stormshadow_x
#19 Posted by StormShadow_X (17511 posts) - - Show Bio

@the_hajduk: While I'm not sure of the requirements myself I don't feel Goku could lift it. It think he's done too many things that risk so many lives and has yet to learn from it. While I think he's a good person, I don't believe that is actually a stipulation ( though I could be wrong) basically if Superman can't lift it I don't see why Goku could other than the fact that I suppose Goku doesn't mind killing his enemies if Neccesary? What would you consider the requirements of being worthy as they've never been explicit t stated to my knowledge only implied through character traits

Impossible to answer because we have absolutely no idea what requirements are necessary. "Worthy" by itself is an extremely vague word, one that does not have one-sided meaning as a term itself. You can be worthy of X but not Y because different qualities are necessary for different things. What qualities you need exactly in order to be worthy in Odin's eyes? At best we know he appreciates humility but not even that is enough for Mjolnir itself because 1) people who are humble failed to lift Mjolnir, 2) Thor lifted it when he was extremely arrogant, and 3) Bor is worthy of it even tho he is extremely arrogant.

How are we suppose to know the answer when we don't know how the enchantment works?

Brienne of Tarth.

Tbh, makes sense. Generally, I'd imagine extremely loyal, just and fair people, with enough willpower, can wield Mjolnir.

@krleavenger: My thoughts exactly. As it's never been clear it's just up to the writer to say whose worthy and correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't Thor bee mind controlled before or something similar a d was still able to weild his Hammer?

Avatar image for gateofbabylon
#29 Posted by GateOfBabylon (5218 posts) - - Show Bio

@krleavenger: @stormshadow_x:

Based on worthy people and non-worthy people, I'd say a noble and honourable warrior with conviction and spirit. Many superheroes have a hard time fitting the "warrior" criteria. Which is why arrogant people like Odin and Bor can lift it while people like Superman and Spider-Man cannot.

Yes, of course, all of these are speculations. Hence the "do you think" part of the thread title.

To throw in one more, one of my top picks is Guan Yu from the Three Kingdoms.

@stormshadow_x You are correct. When Thor is mind-controlled and wants to kill people for selfish reasons, he is still worthy. However, when he was completely controlled by Dock Ock, to the point that Ock was inside his mind, he failed to lift Mjolnir. And as we know, it is possible for others to become unworthy over time. So I guess the requirements are more related to one's mentality rather than how they are essentially.

@gateofbabylon Superman actually was able to lift it in JSA/Avengers crossover. And some sources even say it is canon, tho I question how valid that is. Anyway, I get your point but even some who have those qualities can't lift Mjolnir. But I get your point. We are just speculating. I was just commenting on how we don't really know how enchantment works. So we have to focus more on enchantment itselt, not just think of the character.

@krleavenger: Actually IIRC, Superman was unable to lift it. Odin had to remove the enchantment for him to use.

@darkthunder: idk if that would make him not worthy, sounds like something Thor's Grandfather would do and he seemed to fit the criteria
