Can someone please define what an outlier is, since the word gets thrown around very loosely
What is an outlier?
Outlier means when character does things way out of his/her league. For instance Cyclops hurting Dormammu.
Basically , Plot Induced Stupidity+inconsistency = an outlier.
Outlier is a rare great Feat, which gets contradicted by a Character not being able to replicate this Feat or some other Feat on a Similar Level.
For example, if a Continent-busting Character Planet busts, and if he has shown no reason why he could not do this, and the whole Continent-busting Thing was just his usual Tier, then it is not an Outlier. However, if he failed to do that or something Similar, then it would be a definite Outlier.
Not typical or representative of what we might consider average or normal, to an unusual degree. There is a more technical definition in statistics. Honestly the answers you would get from googling the definition are decent enough. Nothing will mislead you. One super simple definition is "A value that "lies outside" (is much smaller or larger than) most of the other values in a set of data".
In comics/comics forum context, consider moments that seem off or unusual. "Like what about that time Wolverine and Sabretooth hung out and went and got their legs and chests waxed?" "Err, thats an outlier though, not even sure its canon, usually Wolverine and Sabretooth aren't that friendly, and Wolverine only likes to go get waxed on special occasions".
An outlier refers to a feat that fits outside the regular range of a characters abilities. Someone like Spider-Man might be able to lift, for the sake of example, fifteen tonnes in one comic and twenty five in the next, but the majority of iterations of the characters should generally fit in such a range. If he gets a feat outside that range, like lifting five hundred tonnes, then that feat is considered an outlier and generally to be regarded.
Important to note is that some characters have in-universe reasons why they generally perform well below their potential and when that in-universe restriction goes away the feats are not outliers for being outside their usual range.
A term used if a character does something way above their reach or simply a bad argument used against a valid feat lol
I’ve seen people use it when a character has done the same feat multiple times. Sadly it gets tossed around loosely when people are grasping for straws and doing mental gymnastics in the battles forum

It's when a character preforms a feat that he normally wouldn't be able to, a feat that highly contradicts said character's consistent power level/feats. Take for instance Superman vs Lord Dominus, he basically goes toe to toe with a Lord of Chaos and later defeats him via locking him up inside the phantom zone, the same Lord of Chaos who casually served Kismet (DC's version of Eternity, a universal reality warper) up a bowl of a massive ass whoop, yet he couldn't erase nor defeat Superman and struggled with him, that's what we call an outlier or a feat that is unusable in debates, if Clark was consistently that powerful then he wouldn't have struggled or killed against Doomsday, Darkseid or Cyborg Superman and the list goes on and on and on. And there are a plethora of other similar instances such as Spiderman, a street leveler, defeating Firelord who's a herald level being, Jane Foster (Thordis) defeating a Skyfather (Odin) and preforming Supernova-level lightning or Gladiator having an entire fight with Hyperion in the span of a nanosecond.. etc.

That's not an outlier, it was already explained at the beginning of the storyline how the character was weakened and dying from the effects of Magik's Limbo on his dimension and himself.
