With the budget literally being 55 million, it probably only needs around 120m to break even. What if it makes 10x that?
I’d imagine I’d be one of the most profitable movies ever in a cbm
This topic is locked from further discussion.
This movie actually appears to have substance and to be an actual movie not just the generic Superhero MCU and DCEU release so it might but this is probably going to be rated R and probably the darkest CBMs ever released
It would be an achievement for sure, but I don’t think it will. Joker is a big draw, but this depiction of the character is not joker whatsoever. This mans story appears to be tragic, many villains are great because they have tragic and sympathetic origins. Joker isn’t that, no one should even know his origin, he just is, that’s what makes him great.
The movie could still be fantastic, but I don’t think it’ll hit a billion and if it is really successful I hope dC doesn’t change comic joker to match movie joker and rob him of what makes comic joker special.
It’s nigh impossible for a rated R movie to make 1 billion because a lot of the child audience wouldn’t go to see it because of not being old enough. Tbh if it was pg13 is would probably make a billion easily
It's a Hard R...no way. And the in the movie he's supposed to really like porn movies and might possibly take Zazie Beats to a porn movie
It still wouldn't make a billion....it's not an action film...it's a character study.

@tensor: @mickey-mouse: why this is even nixed as a possibility is beyond me. Thought Captain Marvel, Aquaman, and Black panther changed that,
If Deadpool 1 can break 780m, while being borderline unknown to the general public can happen then a joker movie making 1billion can happen. And before you say something like it made that much because it has action, they’re are plenty of movies that have made 1billion that have limited action.
This movie has the benefit of having one of the most well know and popular characters ever, and having a well known lead. If movie is groundbreaking then it could certainly make 1 billion.
@rem: No movie has made 1 billion without being a huge spectacle. Even Titanic and Avatar with limited action were still huge spectacle movies....the director said this is going to be a tragedy. Without spectacle there's no instinctive for repeat viewing, and without repeat viewing you can't get to 1billion.
And u know what I take that back...Avatar had plenty of action...and Titanic ended with plenty...and was marketed as an epic romance film...
@rem: It doesn't matter how groundbreaking a film is...everyone of these movies on the billion dollar list was a CGI fest....

im not sure where youre getting that from but it’s not true.
skyfall wasn’t a huge spectacle.
2017 ”it” cracked 700m exactly with a R rating and the previous “it” movie isn’t nearly as well known as the joker. It didn’t have the popularity advantage that this movie does and also didn’t have a well known lead like this movie does either.

skyfall wasn’t a huge spectacle and neither was pirates of the carribean.

James Bond a Pirate film aren't spectacle franchises? *___*
@rem: Skyfall had a budget of 150 million...so it's a small little movie and not a huge action film?

Well agree to disagree.
my point on “it” still very much stands
@mickey-mouse: no movie has made 1 billion without being a huge spectacle? Yeah finding dory was a huge spectacle and absolutely everyone does in that demographic
Sarcasm is hard to detect on the internet. Cause Finding Dory was a huge spectacle. It had a budget of $150 million and they probably spent even more on marketing.
Probably make a couple hundred mil
It’s not a straight up superhero film and more of a crime drama from what I’ve seen
Naw. It ain’t makin’ a billy. No Batman, not an action movie, hard R rating, and not the Joker we know.

@agent41: Well Yeah. That’s true.
Then it would be the first R rated movie to ever do so. Seriously, I'm pretty sure Deadpool came the closest at only 780 million.
Anything is possible, but it’s doubtful. Since after seeing the teaser trailer earlier this week a lot of people on this site are convinced it’s going to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. The final film from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Return of the King made $1.12 billion dollars. Of course, it was very much an event film, very much a “popcorn” movie, and rated PG-13.
@Penguin-Dust: yeah, but by 2003 it was only the 4th movie to ever make a billion
there being multiple billion dollar movies per year is something that's only started recently
It has virtually zero chance of doing it, but if it did, you can bet your ass Warner Bros would instantly have discussions about and green light more standalone R-rated superhero movies.
@rem: if it does make a billion then it will certainly set precedence for other solo films that will explore the psychology of the most popular comic book characters. Personally, I think the movie is a toss up. People will either find it captivating or they won't. A lot of people will wonder why this movie was made without batman and the psychological aspect of the movie may go over their heads.
Does it really matter if it did? I am sure the sjw haters will be complaining about the dceu pandering to the clown demographic.
Hmmm..Don't know about that. Breaking even might even be a stretch IMO. But if it does then good.
You're joking right? It only cost 55 million to make, it will for sure make double that during it's opening weekend release.
