What if Magneto was Black

I feel like if Magneto was made Black instead of Jewish it would have a stronger message among Americans. For example, instead of his family being killed in the Holocaust, they were lynched or killed by the KKK. He could even equate the plight of mutants to that of Black people. There's a lot you could do if Magneto was Black.

Magneto being jewish was relevant at the time of the xman. Changing it is bad retcons are never good.

It sort of takes away the Malcolm X allegory if you just make him Malcolm X.

Making him black would in fact offend even more Civil Rights activist by portraying a Malcolm X who slaughters people.

The only comparison between Magneto and Malcolm X is the whole militant, nationalist aspect. The main difference that a lot of people don't note is that Magneto preaches and practices violence, whereas Malcolm preached self-defense. This faulty comparison has led a lot of people to oversimplify and misconstrue what Malcolm was all about to just "he was the Black Magneto: he was violent like Magneto, and MLK was peaceful like Xavier."

I wouldn't care, as long as the character and stories are written well.

Black people can't be Jewish? It may be uncommon but it's not unrealistic.

Uh and remember to make him pansexual, while we are at it, uh also give him Asperger or something cool like that, if isnt too much to ask.

Yes, they should make Magento black but not Eric Lensher. Kill off the current magneto and make the new one a black mutant with magento power and that is all about Magento cause. You could make the new Professor X gay too. After all, Spider man is now black and Marvel IS rebooting everything. Time for a change.

Knowing Marvel, this isn't just pointless, but probable.

@gordyman: Maybe you should write it up and see where the story takes you. @vivide posted something recently that really hit home--Marvel is now a movie studio that publishes on the side was the bottom line--so why not return to the early days of World War II and take ownership of the characters and fandoms we love? Write. Draw. Disseminate. Copyrights? Don't ask for $ and you're not in violation. Be punk and DIY instead of waiting for Marvel or DC or whomever to do it for you (because they probably won't).

@vivide: Staff is safe.By and large, the cultural representations Marvel and DC offer outside of the normal hetronormative white are terribly stereotypical, static nightmares for people who are of those cultures. Sure, the NAACP or GLAAD or whatever organization will sing that character's praises until the next Captain America coming out party, but then... BAM! Right back into obscurity with that character. Alan Scott and Northstar? People haven't said anything new about them since they were dragged out of the closet. Nothing has happened for those characters since. Remember Black Captain America? He grandfathered the Patriot and then disappeared. The House of Ideas is the token machine for a long, dark tunnel, but once the car emerges on the other side and you get off the ride? The destination will look just like the departure platform.

I'm not saying I want this to happen, it's a what if question.

All this character are being made by writers that have no idea what to write.

White heterosexual upper middle class that never faced any problem in their lifes, are trying to change a world they will never understand.

This people lives in their little bubble and never does anything to actually get out, when they travel, the bubble travel with them.

Fan fic writers are better that comic book writer at this point.

Well, it would explain Wanda and Pietro's growing up situation.

He'd be kind of cool as black i think. Like Puff Daddy :) Would be an interesting character. Hes family killed by KKK, he moves to New York, lives the gangsta life, and when he discovers his powers, he can live out his hatred for non-mutants. (Erik Lensherr isnt anti-German but anti-human.)

Then they'd have to change his power to pulling the race card! Zing! Ok I'll see my way out.

He probably wouldn't have survived the Holocaust. I'm not 100% the Nazis didn't hate all other races, at least on an individual level (maybe some were OK with Jews and following others, others probably believed they were evil, others thought that anything not blond-haired and blue-eyed needed to be killed, etc.) so being Jewish would have been bad enough. Black and Jewish, I could see them shooting on sight.
