What happened to The Vine?

I joined Comic Vine 7 years ago in the middle of the MoS discourse. While I loved MoS, I still read every debate solely because the arguments were well thought out and (mostly) polite. Every argument or debate was like that. Besides that, this place had great articles, blogs, & all around conversation.

Flash forward to today & what the holy hell happened. Debating is mostly a joke, there are no more great blogs, everything is a flame war, alt/troll accounts run rampant, & I just went into a topic where someone actually faked a Snyder tweet!

As someone who hadn't visited Comic Vine that much over the last couple years, when did this downward spiral start to happen?

Probably the day Gamespot bought it from the original owners.

Everything starts good, but eventually humans (including myself obviously) corrupt it. That's why we can never have nice things. From what Ive seen comic vine is greatly popular which puts it on the radar of those with ill-will

I heard that demigod called Life_Without_Progress disappeared for a few months and then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

Some things I want to mention: flame wars were always a thing, so were trolls and debating was always shit and will forever stay that way.

That being said, I say the downfall of CV is when they merged with Gamespot.

Lol, it's the "CV's bad now" daily thread that happens every month or so. Yes, CV doesn't have the support it does now, no CV wasn't better when you started. It was basically the same with less people. Stop getting your nostalgia confused for reality.

If anything, "classic CV" was worse due to a overall lack of information available, massive flame wars, and Nere being a thing.

Alts are more rampant than they ever were. Otherwise it's mostly just the same old CV.

debating is only shit on certain topics ( naruto or lately gilgamesh threads)

rn from what i have seen the flame wars are not really that usual to see like all those years back toxicity is also rare to encounter unless you go deep on the site

• Old format was a lot better
• Community was more active
• Less fanboys/toxic debates for sure
• More BOTW/CaVs
• More comic debates

I'd say that this site is unfortunately dying as debating is. IW/EG era was much better.

@el_mago: The point is that I have been simply seeing a sharp decline as of late in the discourse on the site. Especially in the boards I used to frequent daily (poor Superman board 😥).

Old CV is massively overrated. Read through old comic threads and you'll find huge amounts of out of context scans, huge lacks of knowledge, and just ridiculous arguments with the occasional great debater. Sure comics were a lot less accessible then compared to now, but it's not like old CV was some bastion of knowledge or anything

I joined this site maybe 4-5 years ago. Discourse was definitely healthier and moderated much better. Now alts have taken over rigging polls and derailing threads.

For instance There's an MCU troll who spams threads with poorly edited gifs and posts that aren't discernible due to incorrect grammar and poorly framed sentences. It's like cancer. It never goes away. There are a bunch of other Marvel trolls but they can be dealt with. Altlord is insufferable though

Its funny too read the posts in this thread about how it was better back when infinity war and endgame came out, when I remember these exact same "CV sucks now" threads existing back then too.

Mods need to be changed. Majority of current ones can't be bothered with the site.

Yes, but there's not enough to go around. There's maybe like, two actually active mods left?

I do find it funny that the site has increased in size and popularity while the mods have shrunk. People actually used to complain about too much mod stuff a few years back.

thi really. I doubt many mods are still active. Jedixman used to be active, but no idea what became of him.

On the home page, the last news is a topic that is 2 years old.

In the comics section, people don't add new tpb's anymore or very late.

On the forum most topics are about who or what is better than what, about animes/mangas, and about non-comics stuff.

It's sad but that's that want people like now-a-days.
