I just saw Thor ragnorak this friday, and while I personally enjpyed the film I often felt as if the movie was a little too light hearted given the events occurring in the film.

To elaborate further, some scenes felt like I was watching a sit-com or parody, it felt as if the characters were never in any real danger.

Am I just crazy or do any of you guys feel the same way?

If anything, I felt like at least half of the jokes didn't land at all. For example, the "Help my brother" joke was just unnecessary and lame. Like....why would Thor and Loki even need to pull that off to fight fodder?? The payoff of the joke was really underwhelming as well. All that just to.....throw him....??

If you don't like laughing (boy I am sorry for you) don't watch a movie that 90% of the time is made for kids, and watch a drama.

I thought it was funny. It was intended to confuse the guards, which it did.

The Asgard's foundation joke ruined an otherwise emotionally impacting scene, but apart from that, no. Among recent MCU movies, Homecoming did the best job at balancing humor, IMO.

I knew the movie was a comedy going in and my fear was it would be like GOTG2 where 90% of the jokes didn't land, but I think almost every joke in this movie landed.

Well I can't argue what you find funny, I just think it was completely unnecessary. Like, the joke was put there because they had a quota to fill.

Nope. It had a good amount of humor, as well as a good amount of action, and there were actual stakes too.

It's funny because if DC makes a movie where it's nothing but comedy it will get blown to bits.

True. But I've always told folks "Comics aren't just for kids! I'm in my 50's and still buy them!" I hope the movies don't make folks think that statement isn't true. BTW....just a general statement, I haven't seen Ragnarok yet so have no opinion on its' humor.

Idgaf if it ruined the tone, it was so funny.

The chain scene had me dying. "Get help" was good too.

I felt the same way. It was too many jokes in my opinion. And I felt that some of them were too out of place. Like when Korg made the joke about the foundations of Asgard still being there so they can rebuild, then Asgard explodes from Surtur's attack.

To this day, I still feel that Iron Man (2008) was still the best Marvel movie that had a great balance of action, comedy, seriousness and consequences.

I really liked the movie, I like MCU Thor but I've never cared about his story or any of his supporting cast aside from Loki.

The original 2 Thor films where more serious but the stories where very weak and other characters forgetable. Ironically if they had been good in their attempts I would have had an issue with the heavy humor focus.

One major criticism is that it's now become Guardians of the Galaxy but without the heart.

I liked it. The jokes were largely spot on, and never felt cringeworthy. Never had a moment where I sat int the theater embarrassed that I paid to see it....unlike *some*cbs.

my dad(who liked comics when he was younger, and Thor was among his favourites) didn't like it when he first saw it

he had to go in a second time thinking of it purely as a comedy to enjoy it

so yeah, it wasn't exactly a balanced movie that can be enjoyed from any angle

seems like you have to go in expecting a comedy to enjoy it, not so much if you're going in only knowing the name and comics(and previous movies, which weren't great, but were more balanced)

First two Thor movies were more serious and it didn't work out. Ragnarok went action comedy route and it hit the jackpot. Still i can see why some of die hard Thor comicbook fans would not like the movie.

It had some funny quips. However, as I sat there watching the film unfold before my very eyes, I found the tone more predictable than genuine. I forced my laughter more often than not.

Korg was actually funny though... if we needed that comedic relief of a character to begin with...

Yes it was, then again I went in expecting a more serious and cataclysmic tone for "Ragnarok" and felt backhanded after watching it. The jokes stopped landing about halfway through for me. I obviously didn't read any reviews beforehand

I really liked the movie. However, the movie has a lot of problems. Humor is one of them. And only 30% of the jokes landed, and that is me being as tolerant as I can.

Yes it had too much humour in too many serious scenes. I did like most of the humour but Waititi needed to dial it back at times, especially Korg's foundations joke.

This movie had the opposite, yet similar problem I had with Justice League. Where JL I feel cut too many scenes, Thor R added back in several scenes that should have stayed cut. In both movies this affected the pacing. In JL, the cuts scenes made the movie feel too rushed, while in Thor R the added scenes make it feel like the movie would occasionally slow or even completely stop just to throw in some jokes or slapstick. Things like Loki reacting to Hulk beating up Thor, Hulk being naked, or anything with Jeff Goldblum worked because they flowed naturally with the scene. Thor getting hit in the head with a ball or Bruce Banner pratfalling on the Bifrost interrupt the scene just to tell a joke and take away from what was happening before.

I legit had a chuckle over some jokes because they were genuinely funny but some other scenes were just not funny and I felt like "erm ok just stop this."

Ooh well.

I get the stakes feeling too low but the emphasis on comedy really, really aided the movie. The other Thor movies were such a drag because they took themselves seriously. Ragnarok was a blast.

Oh for goodness sake, if the jokes didn't work for you then you can say it was supposed to be a comedy, but it wasn't funny. If you did laugh and enjoyed the movie, but now feel some remorse because you would have preferred something more serious then that's wanting your cake and eating it to. A comedy being too funny is a contradiction.
