Was Kong(2017) a let down?
Nope, it was everything I was expecting it to be.
If you were expecting this movie to be anything other than an average blockbuster you were setting yourself up for disappointment
@thorthunder98: It was the opposite of Godzilla imo.
It shows the monster immediately instead of d*ck teasing him
A 70s soundtrack instead of epic score
A humourous tone as opposed to serious.
And interesting leads as opposed to Aaron Taylor Johnson.
I don't know what people expected. I mean it was okay for what it was it was one of those films where you know what the story will be, and your just going for the acorn and special effects.
Skull Island was way better than the newest Godzilla film. We see less than 10 minutes of Godzilla and just watch Kickass running around being the worst dad ever.
Nope, it was everything I was expecting it to be.
The only thing I didn't get enough was monsters. Skull crawlers were not impressive. Giant jungle crab was cool. Jackson's Kong had nice scene when people were attacked by giant incects. I hate incects. I think it would be better if 2017 movie had giant centipedes or something like that. I hate centipedes. Centipedes are scary
@the_stegman: Yea all true that was the most annoying part of Godzilla that you kept getting glimpses and not actually seeing him or cutting off just when he was about to fight the MUTOs
And yea leads were much more interesting especially Tom Hiddleston and even Kong had a sort of a backstory that made him interesting
Was a much different film to Godzilla just talking in the genre of monster films it was much better
Here is the thing. Peter Jackson Kong was boring as shit. It was. Kong had one decent fight scene vs V Rexes. Thats it. Its mostly a film of humans fighting insects (second exiting part) while humans have character development. It was a oscar like movie, but boring as shit for me.
This Kong goes back to the roots of Creature Feature or Kaiju base film. Actors are not that good. Characters are forgettable and expendable. I Expect this. What I wanted was more giant monsters, monster fights, and epic music with epic scenery. I got all this. The movie was decently funny and fast pace as well.
People complaining about the characters, the biggest complaint critics have really of this film, is like complaining that Grind House movies do not have serious content. Kong was a fun movie and meant to be nothing more than fun with fantastic scenery, action, and creatures. Delivered on that.
I didn't expect much at all going in, so I was pretty pleasantly surprised. It was a really fun and exciting film, nowhere near as good as Godzilla, but still a really fun and well paced film. Not every film has to be a masterpiece sometimes it's fun to just kill 2 hours with senseless 100 foot tall giant ape violence.
Nope, it was everything I was expecting it to be.
This. I liked it, John C. Reilly made the movie in my opinion, well him and Kong. There were a couple of scenes early on that I felt were a bit too Michael Bay and I would have preferred they picked music from the time period that wasn't straight off of every single 60's greatest-hits list ever. Apart from that I enjoyed it and it has me double-hyped for Godzilla King of Monsters (2019) and then the Kong-Big G. match in 2020. If I had to compare the two, I didn't like Kong Skull Island as much as Godzilla (2014), but I was never going to because I've been a Godzilla devotee since I was in short pants.
@Penguin-Dust: Dude, when I heard the Godzilla roar at the end, I got chills.
@those_eyes: @the_stegman: Did you notice before the post credits scene at the end, in the actual credits for this King Kong movie the is a line that states "Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah are properties of Toho Co. Ltd"?
@Penguin-Dust: I noticed and pointed it out to a person I was with. I guess even using cave paintings of their likeness is enough to make them give a copyright claim.
@the_stegman: True, I just thought it was funny because it telegraphed who was going be in the post credits scene before it played. Granted, anyone who stayed through all of the credits did so because they knew there was going to be some reference to Godzilla, so it wasn't a complete surprise, but I found the line humorous just the same.
Some of y'all try to take the piss out of everything, but I guess that's just typical internet culture. People tend to whine and biatch. Overall I think people got what they paid for. It's got a 76% audience score on RT and a B+ on Cinema Score. I think people know what they want with these movies. The trick is to make the humans interesting, without overshadowing the leads(the monsters).
I think that's why WB is putting together a stronger writer team for Godzilla vs King Kong.
It didn't disappoint. The goofiness and B-movie tone worked for me, mostly. Still, I think I preferred the 2014 Godzilla, despite its problems.
@undefined: No, it was a lot of fun!

Really? This movie actually bored the shit out of me. They didn't build on suspense. The characters are one-dimensional. The humour was pretentious and mostly dry, the only thing I laughed at was when you hear a bird noise and the guy says "You think that was a bird, but it was a *beep*ing ant". And Kong looked stupid.

Suspense huh. Like Godzilla style? I am a huge GZ fan, and I felt that movie was a let down. Suspense is best left for crime dramas, or horror stories. Action movies have zero need for suspense.
Also many people, including friends of mine who have similar tastes, hate the Godzilla Movies from Japan. Cheap and corny. Yet 20+ movies and 60 years later, GZ is still consider a successful franchise.
Its all opinion mate. Maybe Kaiju films are not your thing.

Actually one of my favorite quotes of Reilly there. It was so left field, and the image that came to my mind was so absurd. That line, and the whole" In the night, I am going to cut ya." line lol. I also loved the Samuel Jackson homage to Jurassic Park with the "Hold onto your butts" line. I liked the film.

Suspense like Jackson's Kong actually. As soon as the crew touch down on Skull Island, Kong isn't revealed in the first 5 minutes. You hear his mighty roar, and you see how people react to it. When Ann is offered up for human sacrifice, you see the trees rustling, so the audience gets a sense of size. And even then, Kong is barely seen in full scope until Ann tries to escape. Its just enough. Godzilla did a decent job, but the thing is the suspense was prolonged to such a degree that people started not to care.
I think it was good with fight scenes a bit dry in story. I give it a solid B, with watching but not something I'm going crazy about. The best part for me was the Godzilla roar At the end. Can't wait till he shows Kong while he may be king of skull island Godzilla bis king of monsters. Then again I predict the actual fight between them will be interrupted by Gidora and they will team up

Jackson Kong? The Movie I fell asleep to? That Kong? No thanks. Other than the V Rexes and Giant bugs attacking people, that movie bored the SHIT out of me. Original >>>> Jackson shitty ass remake.
@sirfizzwhizz: You may not like the movie, but the example still sticks.
@sirfizzwhizz: You may not like the movie, but the example still sticks.
So does mine with your example. You say it needs suspense like Jackson Kong. You dont like. I say it needed less suspense and be fine. I like it as it is.
So matter of opinion. This type of movie may not be for you. However, considering the ratings and reviews, many are on board for the most part.
@monsterstomp: Jackson's Kong was full as dirt. It takes them 45 mins just to get to the island, and when they do, what you call suspense, I call just annoying teasing. We know that Kong is a giant ape just show it we don't need to keep being teased.
@the_stegman: Then you missed the point.
Jackson was telling a story from the human's point of view.

jackson had better human story/cast
Jordan Vogt-Roberts had better kong scenes
@monsterstomp: I got the point, doesn't stop it from being a dull movie.
Likewise, the point of THIS Kong isn't to get human development, it's to see Kong hit stuff.
@the_stegman: The point of Sharknado is to be stupid too. Doesn't make it good.
@monsterstomp: Luckily this is better than Sharknado.
Really good film with great effects. I can imagine seeing it in Dbox seats, IMAX or 3D would be amazing. Had some unexpected surprises.
On that note, this movie is very violent and should be rated R I have seen many R movies less violent than this. Sure it has its flaws regarding the characters and plot but PEOPLE didn't watch it for that.
I can't wait for the next MonsterVerse films.
Lot of fun 8/10.

This. Always looked like an average monster movie to me.
