Poll Was Endgame an underwhelming follow up to Infinity War? (81 votes)

Yes 58%
No 42%

I’m one of those people who wished they did something different than the time travel. I would have rather seen a hunt to find Thanos or something. But I felt Infinity War so nonstop and action packed, that the slow pace and time travel shortcut just seemed underwhelming to me. Oh and Fat Thor. Can’t forgive that lol.

Fans of Thor, the Hulk, BW had a car crash ride...

Still, others really enjoyed it so I guess opinions will always be split. I personally agree with you

The time travel plot point was cliche but I did enjoy it overall and thought it was executed decently enough, my only complaints being Tony’s meeting with his father and Steve seeing Peggy felt a little contrived. Additionally it felt like they got the stones too easily.

I don’t see what’s wrong with Fat Thor, it made sense given the context of him having lost his purpose post-snap after finding out the stones couldn’t be obtained again, he had clear trauma/PTSD from it all. A complaint I see a lot was that it was played for laughs however it’s a Marvel film so they have to balance heavy shit with some levity and if that comes in the form of visual fat jokes then so be it.

Yes. Infinity War was miles better. To this day I have yet to watch Endgame more than the two times I watch every movie by default in theaters.

It's only worth watching the final battle

Quite the opposite for me.

I found IW to be just okay (fun, but very overstuffed and poorly paced, with only the final scene of Thanos' victory really holding any sense of weight), but I enjoyed EG much more (quite emotional, better acted, better character writing, fewer characters, better paced).

Underwhelming, huh? Yeah, I suppose it was a bit. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it and the final battle against Thanos was a spectacle but it does feel like they could have done a lot more than what we saw.

Yeah. It was...bad. Plot took a nose dive, characterization died in a wildfire, and everything was just...not good. They only made it 'epic' and nostalgic. And it was only epic for the Cap Worthy scene and the Avengers Assemble scene.

Yes for what Endgame was hyped up To be it was just one giant tribute to RDJ and Evans instead of a wrap up to the Thanos arc.

For me Endgame’s emotional moments make it the best Avengers film.

Infinity War had a better crafted plot but honestly feelings stick out to me more than the minutia of the plot.

Time travel wasn't the problem. Its how they ended up making it too messy. All these macguffins like the time gps devices, pym particles, branched timelines and new versions of infinity gems to collect felt over complicated. If they simplified the time travel like in t2 or Xmen DOFP where timetravel exposition is hardly mentioned, it would have been much better. IW is better as a result because its streamlined

No. It wasn't better than IW but it was a good conclusion.

Why? It was her best character arc yet.

@anthp2000: Okay some people thought she has a noble end in EG, at least some that I spoke too, but I felt she deserved a lot better at the end and from the very start.

The journey we took with her involved a lot of weak side-stories, including her link with the Hulk.... and how that sort of fizzled out. Maybe some people will now be satisfied that she has her own solo movie, but honestly, I have lost interest because of how it all played out (and ended) in EG.

It was underwhelming compared to IW a bit , but not because of Bro Thor. I adored him . And I still loved the movie.

And the body shaming on this forum , sometimes, is quite sad.

@wakeupsid: it was less about him being fat, but how they treated him as a character.

@bayman007:

EG in general has some very controversial arcs and they made a lot of controversial choices so it's no surprise that Natasha's epilogue was one of them.

Yeah, the first three quarters were a bit boring and the time travel seemed a bit like a cheap cop out. That being said, I still enjoyed the movie and the finale was epic.

I would’ve made Tony have to erase his daughter’s timeline to undo the Snap, which would’ve matched the sacrifice Thanos made in IW.

No, as a Ironman fan it was a good ending for the character.

Thor was a letdown.

Yes, it wasn’t that good but still decent.

Fat Thor and fights were average, the writing and pacing was off. I’ll give a 7.5/10 being generous.

The more I watch IW the more I think it's an underrated masterpiece.

EG was great but not a masterpiece. It was still fun however but still underwhelming compared to IW.

Not for me since I prefer Endgame considerably over Infinity War.

I thought it was good, not really great. I was also disappointed that after all the build up with regard to Thanos that his only real powers were being a brick who can use a sword. His power level didn't really deliver to me.

No, i seen it in theather and it was a worthy closure to the infinity saga, perhaps i wanted to see more of Thanos but it's understandable since it was focused in the og Avengers. It had solid emotional moments, like natasha sacrificing herself (tony's death didn't hit me that much) and epic moments like the Avengers +army charge. It was not without mistakes but nothing that breaks inmersion. To the critics,if you see in it a netbook, I tell you, in the big screen is a totally different experience.

It wasn't better than Infinity war but it was still a spectacle none the less.

Also like how a majority of the the actual comments contradict the polls lol.

IW was the superior film but I wouldn’t say I was underwhelmed my EG. Both were good films that I enjoyed.

I enjoyed Infinity War a lot more. Endgame was pretty boring until the third act if I'm being honest.
