In case any dumbass claimed that this is a bait thread, I am an MCU fan.
As you know, so far there hasn't been a single MCU film that is below average in terms of critical reviews. The closest it went there was Thor: The Dark World, but even then reviewers were in mixed-positive range.
Ever since trailers and early screenings (Of the 1st 20 minutes) had dropped, there seemed to be some warning signs that Avengers Infinity War may receive at best mixed reviews or worse... Like Justice League did.
- https://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2018/04/05/box-office-what-if-avengers-infinity-war-performs-like-justice-league - Extremely high expectations. Remember the hype for Captain America: Civil War and forbes' claim that it may gross US$2 billion? Haha.
- Too many characters. Obviously. Many fans will go in to be disappointed that their favourite character will inevitably get cameo status.
- https://nerdist.com/avengers-infinity-war-footage-reactions-nntb/ - Early screenings indicates tone changes between different scenes and groups changing between humorous and serious/dark stuff. Despite the current smooth continuity of the MCU, ultimately Starlord is still a comedic character based on space while Captain America is a more grounded, less comedic character. Remember criticism of Justice League? This is also a major concern.
- Finally, https://screenrant.com/avengers-infinity-war-review-embargo/ - Just like Justice League, the embargo will only be lifted one day before the movie. We all know what that did to Justice League's box office and reviews. Yes, its a strategy employed by Lucasfilm to prevent spoilers from leaking too early, but you have to wonder - Why do it now when it can be done in many previous MCU films?
