According to MTV , Death Row records which was purchased for $18 million after going bankrupt this past January is now looking to comic books to expand their empire. This is interesting, simply because it really has never been done before.

WIDEawake, who now owns Death Row, plans to launch a new brand extension called Hustle City that will produce books, animated webisodes, games, and even a feature film using the legendary hip-hop label’s properties. At the top of their list is a graphic novel that will include a CD insert of story-related music. “Our goal is to continually breathe new life into Death Row,”

I can understand "breathing new life into Death Row," but a Death Row comic book? According to the company's founder, Lara Lavi, the graphic novel will contain a CD containing music tracks that would go along with the book. While the idea seems to me at least to be completely unconventional, it is nonetheless interesting. However, I can see it can also having pretty lousy sales. It seems to me at least, that unless you are a die hard fan of "Death Row Records," you may not necessarily run to your local comic book shop to pick this up. Hey, what do I know? I love Tupac, but I don't see myself picking this up unless they manage to get a solid creative team to back them up. What do you guys think? Do you think that this is just another way to cash in on Tupac's career?

I really don't like or want comics about real people, unless the comics are parodies or the person is a comedian.

This doesn't sound as bad as Blue Water production's "Femme Force" their doing, where it's the focus of real women, from politicians to comedians, in comic form.

That sounds boring, doesn't it?

And they can do Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre comic books. Imagine a comic where Dr. Dre becomes a real doctor because a genie granted his wish but to make amends for his sins he has to help the needy.

I know that we read stories about people who dress in spandex and swing from buildings but comics about real people always seem cheesey

I love some Pac, but I would hate it if it were just to cash in on his name or image. Also makes me wonder if they would be fictional or not.

Back before he blew up it was his dream for someone to make cash out of his name. I'm sure it was still his dream after he blew up.

I wont say I dont know why there would be a Tupac graphic novel coming out because I know there are die hard Tupac fans that would love it and a great abundance of them at that. But I will say that he AINT COMIN BACK.

Death Row (apparently no matter who's in charge over there) will continue to exploit Tupac's name for many years to come. I would organize a boycott if I was a boycott type of n!**@

Tupac just needs to be put into either the Batman or Superman comics. In the Batman comics he could be the new Black Mask. In Superman comics he could be an alien stronger then anyone who Superman ever fought.

I say nay to this. Now I'd read a Lupe Fiasco Graphic Novel or a Jay-Z Graphic Novel even. But Death Row? They fell off for a reason.

WIDEawake had to do something to capitalize on the purchase of Death Row, and pimping Tupac's likeness and music is it. They don't have the rights to any of Dr. Dre's work since he took his master tapes with him when he left Death Row to form Aftermath, so no tenth anniversary release of "The Chronic". Snoop won't work with Death Row in any incarnation, and no one else from Death Row is worth mentioning anymore.

Tupac, on the other hand, won't complain since he's, y'know........DEAD. His Death Row recordings were a part of the sale, and there were almost 100 songs recorded by him right after his relase from jail so there's plenty of material to choose from. As for a Tupac comic book.......unless its biographical, I have no interest in it. He was an interesting man whose intelligence was overshadowed by his "gangsta" image.

It has potential to drag along if they treat it like a biography like others have done in the past, ie The Life Of Pope Johns Paul IV or the Obama vs McCain trade.  (interesting people, concepts, and collectors items- lame plot lines)  At the same time, a little twist of reality could turn drab into absolutely phenominal.  I'm basing this off of the animation in Snoop Dogg's Hood of Horror.  The art was cinamatic gold and the action held my attention like nothing else.

Now, I'm sure that Tupac lived an interesting life to say the least, but if Deathrow decided to immortalize him as a gangsta demon dragging souls to the afterlife via hellivator as D O double G did, I wouldn't feel my money was wasted on the purchase.

Tupac was a real man he deserves his own movie and i mean real movie not that Tupac Resurection shit. A movie like Biggie had. It be bigger, badder and better since Tupac was the better rapper.
