Seems like Eternals 2 is officially announced.
Do you think they learned from their mistakes?
Honestly after seeing Tacky's comedy I admired Eternals more serious tone.
I actually liked the first movie, so I'm looking forward. And I hope Chloe Zhao sticks to her style.
I doubt it will be anymore than mediocre which seems like a compliment given the last film. They are not really good with conceptual characters(cough cough Inhumans). They should stick to their money grabbing blockbusters for Avengers.
Looking forward to it , And I Hope They'll be treated like actual powerhouses :)
In Eternals , they were struggling Hard with Deviants who apparently were struggling a bit with shotguns..
but then you have things like Planetary Druig , Relativistic Makaari , Solar flare-no-selling Ikaris .. etc
The first movie seemed soulless, uninterested in telling a captivating story and suffered from many Marvel cliches - generic and a rather terrible villain, generic and lazy costumes and make-up and a rather mediocre action/drama story.
I don't care if they give them a second movie, but if they want to redeem themselves in some way and make the audience interested in these movies then they should do it. A second movie, done in a better way, would be a good way to bring some life back to the franchise.
Eternals to me is arguably the second worst MCU film to date. Boring. Soulless. Lackluster. Muddled plot. As someone else said, mediocre is the best way to put it. I’d honestly rate it lower than Dark World, and Black Widow. I’d probably put barely above captain Marvel at that. Maybe even below Captain Marvel.
I was thoroughly convinced that they wouldnt make a sequel after the last one bombed (yes, it lost money and was a critical washout as well), but i guess i was wrong. Looks like it'll be rebranded as 'Celestials End of Time' though, which makes sense. If they were gonna continue the eternals story they had to rename.
The first film was bad (#21), but there are aspects that worked. The cinematography was great, especially with the scale of the celestials. The action was sparse, yet enjoyable, with each attack having weight. The soundtrack was wonderful, with the main piece sounding like a heroic version of Daenerys' theme in Game of Thrones. A great cast that have good to fantastic chops. Being as Zhao will be coming back to direct, I hope she is complimented by more experienced writers this time. The opposing forces shouldn't feel like the literal animals and born yesterday, hollow enemy with vague and poorly conveyed motivations. The team was pretty bare bones when concerning motivations, especially Sersei, so some fleshing out would be nice.
When concerning shows of power, I'd like fir them to almost evoke Silver Surfer vibes, in that they are the extensions of a great and powerful being. They literally draw their power from an infinite pool of cosmic energy, show case some of that. It can help out the redemption (unlike the Asgardians and Captain Marvel, they were on world, and even though they could stopped major threats with ease, they did nothing because of their mission; it could fuel some emotional moments) some of them hope to achieve, namely Thena, Makkari, and Druig, on their journey to free other Eternals and in turn save innocents. Ikaris, if he and or the others are reborn, would hopefully get a deus ex machina moment (Sersei connects with a new Ikaris, lacking his Earthen memories, and helps him overcome "his" wrongdoings and his view of the Celestials). His being by his lonesome during the Zombies reveal indicates that he may be significant compared to the rest, with Wanda and Carol being among Abomination and Ghost (it could be that he's special in that he's damaged, but still not a zombie).
Didn't watch Eternals yet...
And maybe there is something that i am missing regarding last year comic book movies but by the numbers, STILL in pandemic context was Eternals really that flop? Still beat Dune without China.

I actually thought the first movie is pretty ok for me. I'm definitely interested hopefully the bad guys in this one is given more spotlight considering the deviants were some of the most uninteresting aspects in the last movie.
It has potential. If it's like the space set prison break/rescue mission it's implied to be, it could be good. They even have an excuse to write out half the bloated cast, just be focusing solely on the half that's trying to save the other half.
Also, the theory of them bringing back Richard Madden as Sentry or Hyperion would be very clever subversion. He who died in sun becomes he who wields the power of suns
Eternals had a banger story, but the action left much to be desired
I'm sure since their debut has passed we will see some interesting stuff with the sequel 😊

Can we have a movie about the Celestials instead? I care more about them than the Eternals.
That would be interesting.

Yeah, it just seems like a waste not to give them their own story. Their design is so amazing and their backstory is so interesting.

agreed.
Where can you even go from he- oh right, now the Eternals are at the center of a Marvel event... le sigh....

Pretty much how I feel. It's funny since it's one of the few comic book movies I've seen (I actually like the comic Eternals) but man what a lot of dead air.

period.
Remove romance. Remove woke. Remove any trans, geh, lesb, etc moment. We dont need it. Focus on story building and characters.
I don't remember any LGBT scene except 1 Phastos moment, and I don't remember any romance scene except few Sersi-Dane scenes (which are necessary for later)
Are you sure these are the movie's problems and not slow pacing, boring action etc?

Agreed. It was really boring and felt lazily written. Wasn't it supposed to take place over thousands of years and tell an epic story? It really felt like they did a 180 on the script last minute. Something really feels off with the final product upon viewing.
I was ecstatic to hear that Eternals were getting a sequel (even though Angelina spilled the beans on the red carpet of the first movie). I don't quite understand the brutal hate the first film endured but I do wish it was a TV series on D+ because it did have a lot of lore and characters that were crammed up into a 2-hour movie. From the fight choreography, character dynamics, and beautiful cinematography. In the sequel, I am hoping that the Eternals will get better feats than they got in the first film, it was a bit lackluster to me given how they are literal creations of the Celestials, you'd think they'd be much more of a threat.
Yeah, i think ill wait for Disney+, if I even watch it at all.
I liked Eternals (imo one of the top 3 mcu movies visually) even though it had its bigger issues. I'd rather them have a second movie to develop them more rather than them being wasted and added into some other space adventure movie as side characters.
☝️ Altho cameos can be good t👀
I actually really liked the first movie. I think people just hate on it just because it was different from the rest of the cookie cutter MCU films. Sure they could have taken more time to flesh out certain stuff, but it was overall still a really enjoyable film. Much more so than BW or MoM or L&T, making it one of the more enjoyable MCU films in recent years. Not the best, but enjoyable enough. So I don't think the first film was a "mistake".
I think the Eternals would need a character shake-up like Thor needed. Not to the extent of being two jokey, but actual character would be nice to have.
Poor Sersi. She has so much personality in the comics. You know there is a problem when the classic age of comics does right by the character over a movie with a better budget.
Which don’t even compare to later works.
