if you had go before the supreme court and pick out the ten best representations of the medium in order to keep them from ruling comics unconstitutional what would they be? this is for the fate of comics everywhere so choose wisely.

I don't think I've read enough comics to make this top 10. However, I bet there's a lot of Vertigo and indie comics that qualify for that list.

Batman - the Killing Joke

Iron Man - Demon in a Bottle

Action Comics #242 - first Brainiac and Kandor

I haven't read enough comics to make a decision like this, but here's what comes to my head:

  • Ultimate Spider-Man
  • The Dark Phoenix Saga
  • Days of Future Past
  • Batman: Hush
  • Blackest Night
  • Thor: God of Thunder (the entire run)
  • Stephanie Brown's entire time as Batgirl
  • Some old Spider-Man comics from the 60s & 70s (just about any story arc would be good)
  • Geoff Johns' run on Green Lantern
  • The Walking Dead (I only read the first six issues and didn't care for it, but it is hugely popular)

If the court was actually considering ruling them unconstitutional i think you would want to keep V for Vendetta and Watchmen and Batman off the list. And present the 10 most mind numbing un-inspiring comics ever. That way this new tyrannical court would keep them constitutional writing them off as opiates for the masses.

Why would they declare comics unconstitutional? That doesn't make any sense. They can only declare laws unconstitutional based on the... well... Constitution. They wouldn't declare it unconstitutional, they would just pass a law to ban it. But they wouldn't, because the Supreme Court can't propose or pass laws. Only determine their unconstitutionality, which they would not do with banning comics because that would, itself, be unconstitutional.

Batman: Year One

Iron Man: Extremis

Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps War

The Dark Knight Returns

Thor: The God Butcher

There's over 100,000 comics in the library of congress, so it's a safe bet many of these suggestions are among them. I'm kind of surprised no one mentioned Maus or From Hell though.
