Jeff Lemire is returning to DC after his Marvel exclusive for a new superhero "family" titled The Terrifics with artist Ivan Reis. Part of the post-Dark Nights: Metal "Dark Matter" line, The Terrifics will consist of Mr. Terrific, Metamorpho, Phantom Girl, and Plastic Man.

That's right: a scientist, a stretching man, a brute with physical disfiguation, and a woman who can become intangible.

And yes, it's the team teased earlier this week at Comic-Con International: San Diego.

Lemire said that his goal with The Terrifics is to recapture the feeling of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's Fantastic Four.

Well I guess, If Marvel won't do it then DC will.

If Marvel wasn't gonna use them guess DC has too LMAO. I like the Team alot too so....I'm actually really hyped.

5 years from now this team will be popular amongst the comic fandom hopefully :p and maybe then we'll get a good F4 Movie.

Why Plastic Man not Elongated Man? Haha

I don't think this will last.

DC is better off creating all new characters for a title like this.

@vinomonster: Plastic Man fits much better in my opinion, and he'll bring wacky humor.

DC - I see what you did there...

There needs to be a story arc featuring The Challengers of the Unknown! I think the last I saw a couple members were dead/ghosts.

Should be interesting to see how they homage or one-off classic rogues like The Mole Man...and that guy...that king of that foreign country...what was his name again? ;)

@doom_phd: Nah. Partly due to the fact they want the movie rights back. They pretty much found a nice way to get rid of half of the team (The Richards Family side) and left Johhny and Ben on entirely separate teams and places.

Funny enough they love a chance to use Doom and Galactus.

Will Jeff Lemire still work at Marvel or is he done there ??

Also, is that description in the OP really published by DC ?? Are they really openly saying they are copying the Fantastic Four ??

Finally, couldn´t Marvel sue them ?? They are literally copying them.

I guess Plastic Man will have the role of Johnny but with Reed´s powers, and Terrific will have the role of Reed.

Lemire only said that he was going to try to recapture the feeling of Lee/Kirby run of FF. Being inspired by them doesn't really inflict any copyright more so because the characters are really different.

Also this is phrased from what Lemire said on the conference so DC didn't really publish that description, It's from someone that was on the panel.

@the_stegman: I agree. Plas is a much better fit.

I'm kinda hoping they leave Ralph in the suburbs with Sue and Alice. Just cuz I don't want anything bad to happen to them

I would only give this a shot for plasticman only.

Still this is funny by DC.

I had a good laugh.

Well, I guess that's one way for me to get a Plastic Man ongoing an a FF book at the same time, I just wish it was done the more traditional way, and not together.

Of course not, being inspired doesn´t inflict any copyright, but this is a straight copy from the Fantastic Four that I think it´s within the sue territory, it´s like when you register a brand there are also the clausules where people can´t use a similar name to yours like "Adibas" instead of Adidas, and I think this could fall somewhere in the contract where the FF are licensed, that no other company can make a family with a scientist, a deformed strong guy, an invisible chick and a fire dude (in this case the fire dude is missing) but replaced with someone who has Reed´s same powers.

Although, with a little bit of hindsight, Marvel has the Squadron Supreme so......

DC should sue them for Moon Knight, SS, Deadpool and all the Superman knockoffs. These companies do these things all the time.

Um, why not just use the Challengers of the Unknown?

The hell is Phantom Girl doing there? Isn't she a member of the Legion of Superheroes? Metamorpho? Plastic Man?? Mr. Terrific???

Who did Moon Knight copy ?? Don´t say Batman as the only thing they have in common is that they operate at night, their characters, especially their alter-ego are completely different.

Anyway, I already addressed those points you make.

A stretchy guy and an invisible girl don't quite make this DC's version of Fantastic 4. It's a pretty big leap, in fact.

  1. Terrific is a genius but has not stretch ability.
  2. There is no Torch
  3. There is no Thing
  4. Metamorpho isn't a brick. He's a versatile character that can make any element.

@thor_parker82: phantom girl phases through objects and Metamorphos primary power is transmutattion. ReGardless of their powers, I don't think they can be sued over this.

Think the general idea is simply to make an approximation the same way Marvel makes approximations of DC characters and teams.

Regarding the lineup, I was under the impression that Damage (the big black and blue guy) was joining as well?
