Very soon we will be spoiled by two high budget epic fantasy TV series, both are prequels set to popular IPs.

Which one are you looking forward to more? Which one do you think will be the better show? What are your anticipation, expectation, hesitation, and/or other general thoughts about these two upcoming shows? :-)

Excited for both shows regardless of the quality I feel its a needless thing to be making a thread calling for comparisons or which will be better etc

HOTD. My opinion isn't pretty popular but I prefer the GOT universe to LOTR, and HOTD seems to have gotten a lot of details from the books that even the og show didn't have. They also are working closely with Martin so pretty optimistic about writing

Compare that to ROP, whose orcs and dwarves look pretty good but the elves....

Also I don't see anything about acclaimed writers on ROP, but fingers crossed for both shows being masterpieces

@ready_4_madness: in my opinion, both are going to fail.

You don't have the authority to decide what's an opinion and what's not.

TRoP is going to deal with stuff I'm not too familiar with, with LoTR knowledge slipping from my mind by the day (I do hope to read all books one day). GOT S1-4 is my favorite piece of television, and I really enjoyed Fire & Blood, more so than Feast or Dance, and Dumb & Dumber are gone, so I'm looking forward to this new "The Dragon Show".

Both could suck tbh.

More interested in house of dragons.

Tv series budget is ballooning lately. Ring of power cost almost 500 million for a 8 episodes season!

Well, the nay sayers who predicted failure for house of the dragons will probably eat their words if the show maintans' the level of quality it had in the first two episodes.

Whereas on the other hand the the Rings of Power isn't earning that 60 million per episode budget in terms of anything outside of visuals, score and sets. As I've already mentioned the visuals are stellar and all credit goes to the often overlooked vfx artists. But that's pretty much the only praise I can give the show. The rest of show is mind numbingly dull with a meandering plot and forced try-hard tolkein esque dialogue especially for the elves which make their scenes in particular drag. The cast is bloated and while every one is serviceable or okay, Galadriel is thoroughly unlikeable in this even though I get what their trying to do with the "stuck up warrior princess who most find unlikeable but she only acts like this cause she's internally grieving and in pain" trope.

After seeing the first 2 episodes of both shows, I would say I am loving HOTD so far and quite liked TROP.

Can't find a single dislike from Dragon, the dialogues are smartly written, every single character (so far) is 3-dimensional, interesting and intriguing, and the plots and subplots are so rich I can't wait to see how they unfold/develop. So far HOTD is chief's kiss for me.

Power is quite enjoyable so far, the visual effects, costumes and set design etc are top notch for a tv show, even more impressive than GOT/HOTD I would say. I also love the friendship between Elrond and Durin (and Durin's family is so delightful!), and I like the Arondir character and am keen to see what the show is gonna do with him. On the other hand, I am lukewarm with Galadriel (I was never much of a fan of angry/obsessive type of character, but gonna give her a chance though), the pacing is a bit lagging, and the Elven dialogues can feel cliche and cheesy at times.

So far so good with both shows, can't wait for the next episodes.

Both shows have been written well thus far. The Budget cuts for HoTD are unfortunate but they still did well.
