This was a really solid episode. Good character development, good look at the Thinker and what he's doing.

#4  Edited By kiba

So boring, it was hard to sit through all the Barry Iris stuff, Cisco and Gypsy were good but Caitlins legs stole the show for me and the action was stupid. inflatable suit? Come on! I normally defend this show but its easily the worst of the four for me but LoT was fun.

This episode ended on an odd bit of character development. Barry learns to trust his unqualified wife over the genius doctor and super genius engineer about the lightning not killing him. One has been studying Barry's vitals for years and the other built the suit that was threatening to explode.

But no, Iris is definitely the one to trust in this situation.

@metaljimmor: its worse than that, Cisco, Caitlin and Barry have proved they can handle these situations over the years and now all three are regressed to the point of useless just to make Iris look good in a position she's not fit for due to a situation that was completely stupid to begin with.

@kiba:

Yah, Iris being the new leader of Team Flash makes very little sense to me. I get why she'd need to step in since Cisco is on the field and Caitlin was gone, so somebody had to use the computer to tell them what the satellite said. But now Barry and Caitlin are both back. Iris is not at all as qualified as Cisco or Caitlin to do that job, but she still seems to be the one making all the shots.

She isn't a master hacker, doesn't know how Barry's suit works, isn't a doctor who knows Barry's metahuman physiology, and doesn't know the science behind how the villains he is fighting work. She shouldn't be running the operation. At most she should fill H.R's job of occasionally saying something that gives the geniuses in the room an idea.

Awesome episode! The beginning was fantastic and I may have like this one better than the Season 4 Premier (which is one of my favorite episode)

Iris is completely ruining this season for me.

She has no business being the leader of team flash she's not qualified or got any skills to run them, yet she bosses everyone about like she knows better than all these ridiculously clever people. Plot has just forced her to have some sort of value to the team...

Iris might not have any formal training, but it's evident that she DOES have what it takes to be a leader based off the fact that she's made all the right calls so far.

The team only caught teleporter girl last episode because Iris noticed her pattern.

Iris also quickly concocted a plan to save the runaway driver, which Barry ignored for his own ideas, and he turned out to be completely wrong.

Iris is also responsible for returning Barry's sanity as well as saving him from the self destruct. Both of those plans were risky and required strength. Cisco and Caitlin lack the fortitude to be leader if they can't make difficult decisions like that. Iris is the only one there able to make the tough calls. She obviously inherited her father's strength.

She noticed a pattern. Literally anyone standing at the computer probably could have seen that too, but they were busy in the field.

The only reason Barrys' plan failed was because he was in the Speed Force when that road was under construction, so he simply didn't know the layout of the city changed. And both of their plans were stupid, because Barry could have simply phased the driver out of the car.

Iris literally did nothing but walk up to the bad guy, say "take me," and "the power of love" would save her. And by all accounts, there was no actual reason to trust Iris over the doctor and the engineer in the room who knew far more about Barry and the suit than Iris.

False. Iris is talented and strong, but deeply flawed. She showcased this in the most recent episode when she couldn't help but blame Barry for leaving her. Irrational? Yes. And Iris herself knows on a conscious level that Barry HAD to leave to save the world, but subconsciously, she can't stop herself from feeling abandoned. It's a selfish and illogical feeling to have, and that's why Iris kept it buried inside until it was forced out of her, she feels guilty for blaming Barry.

You don't know that. You need to be perceptive to notice a pattern.

This doesn't change the fact that Iris was right.

Iris literally did nothing but walk up to the bad guy, say "take me," and "the power of love" would save her.

That takes fortitude and trust, traits required of a strong leader. Cisco and Caitlin might be smart but Iris is the only one capable of making the hard decisions.

And by all accounts, there was no actual reason to trust Iris over the doctor and the engineer in the room who knew far more about Barry and the suit than Iris.

If Barry trusted the engineer and the doctor he would have died... Iris was right.

Caitlyn and Cisco are pretty perceptive, and Iris had a good idea to a problem that had several possible solutions. Some even easier than her suggestion. Killer Frost and her actions to help herself prove that she can make "tough decisions," as well. Iris was right...by the "power of love."

And really, there's no arguing with the "power of love."

Not as perceptive as Iris, evidently!

Iris had a great idea under pressure and within moments. That is exactly what a leader is supposed to do. Phasing wasn't an option, Barry would have saved the guy but the car was still a danger.

Caitlin is tough as nails, she's one of my favorite characters. But it's evident that she wouldn't be as strong a leader as Iris. There's a difference between being a strong leader and just strong in general.

Iris always being right is a product of the writers making it so she is always right. It's obvious the writers want her to be the smartest one in the room all of a sudden, but that doesn't make it good or consistent story telling. Iris doesn't know anything about Flash's speed powers or how the suit worked, and the two people who are experts in those two fields disagreed with her. We didn't even get an explanation for why Iris' plan worked. It seemed to just be pure luck.

Not to mention, Team Flash has been functional without her for years. There's no reason for everyone to have suddenly become less competent so she can take charge.

Team Flash has been functional without her due to the leadership of Wells and Harry. Guess what - they ain't around no more. Caitlin, Cisco and Barry haven't taken a blow to their competence -- they were never very competent in the first place! All three of them are immature, inexperienced nerds who aren't good under pressure. Iris IS good under pressure.

@the_hajduk:

There was an entire season where all they had was H.R. and they did fine.

Funny you mention experience, because Iris has less experience fighting metahuman crime than any of them. She came in late to the party and has zero background in the science behind either Barry or his enemies. And not good under pressure? Those "nerds" have been fighting for their lives and coming up with brilliant strategies since season 1. Even when Wells and Harry were around Cisco was often the one to come up with how to bring down the big bad of the week. He is so good at coming up with plans he's basically a walking plot device.

You can keep trying to downplay Cisco and Caitlin all you want, but the plain truth is they are way more qualified to be telling Barry what to do than Iris is. Not that Barry should even need a whole team of people by this point. But the writers needed something for her to do.
