Crisis on Infinite Earths is possibly the greatest comic-book crossover of all time.
And this coming fall, it’s coming to The CW’s Arrowverse. Here’s what to expect from it.
(At least almost) Every hero from each show
You can’t have a Crisis without having literally everyone. That means Team Flash, Team Arrow, Supergirl, Superman, Martian Manhunter, The Legends and Batwoman are givens. And since, in a Crisis, time ceases to matter, we could easily see Supergirl’s Legion of Super-Heroes and possibly even Legends’ JSA. We could also see plenty of heroes who haven’t been seen in a while, such as the Hawks, Huntress, Wildcat and even present-day Vixen. On top of that, dead characters like Martin Stein and even Earth-1’s Laurel Lance could return. We’re also bound to see any new heroes that join the shows.
If you don’t know who the Anti-Monitor is, here’s the basic fact: he makes Thanos look about as threatening as Michael Cera on Estrogen Pills. Because while Thanos’ actions can be stopped and even reversed, The Anti-Monitor will have a lasting impact on the multiverse, whether you remember it or not.
Heroes (and villains) from across the multiverse
This means we’ll likely see Jay Garrick again, as well as Gypsy, Breacher and other heroes from other worlds. (And hopefully, we’ll see 90s Flash again, even though having Jay would likely defeat the purpose.) In addition to that, we could see alternate heroes like Power Girl, Diggle’s Green Lantern (assuming he’s not dead), or even Tom Welling’s Superman from Smallville. Black Lightning, whose adventures take place on an earth separate from Earth-1, could also show up. It’s also possible we might see other “Elseworlds” characters like Red Son’s Superman or even the Crime Syndicate, the evil mirror-image of the Justice League. Speaking of which…
The Justice League
The Arrowverse has gone without a Justice League for far too long. It's possible DC will let them use even more characters, such as Batman, Green Lantern and even possibly Wonder Woman and Aquaman. That way, we can get a full JLA for Crisis.
At least one major character death
In the comics, “Crisis on Infinite Earths” had quite a body count. Supergirl and Barry Allen, who just so happen to have their own shows, were among the dead, although they later returned. Supergirl was replaced with her Earth-2 counterpart Power Girl, and Wally West took up Barry’s mantle. Wally as The Flash would be great to see, as he’s actually responsible for a lot of key “Flash” storylines in the comics. Maybe that could be what finally convinces Keiynan Lonsdale to reprise his role. Green Arrow’s death, sadly, seems likely, and it’s possible the “deal” he made with The Monitor in Elseworlds was in exchange for his own life. It’d be sad to see him go, but it’s possible we may see the last of Oliver Queen in “Crisis”.
The multiverse is merged, and continuity is greatly altered
“Worlds will live. Worlds will die. And nothing will ever be the same.”
Ain’t that the truth.
The only way to stop earths from dying in a Crisis is by having them merged into a prime earth - an event that few will ever remember. This means that Supergirl, Smallville, Black Lightning and possibly even Titans could all be at least partially canon from here on out. It’ll be crowded, but the more the merrier, amirite?
As for the continuity, we could see big changes in characters’ backstories. Maybe Diggle could become Green Lantern. Maybe the Justice League could have formed a while back in the new reality. Who knows?
What do you think of this? What do you hope to see or not see? Comment!
