The 2014 Comic Vine Movie Awards (Part 1)

It's time for the third edition of the Comic Vine Movie Awards! From sci-fi craziness to adorable animation, 2014's variety of films really did have something for everyone. We know that's such a cliche saying, but there truly was a great selection of movies to choose from. And if you didn't enjoy anything this year, well, you're just ridiculously tough to please. Anyway, the Comic Vine staff has reflected on this year's movies and we've created nine categories. Ranging from best director to best visual effects, we hope the experience will make you enjoy thinking about the movies you really liked and maybe even motivate you to watch some of them all over again. The first three categories are right here in this article, but the next three won't appear until tomorrow and then the final three will be shared on Monday.

This first part of the 2014 Comic Vine Movie Awards is all about characters! Below you'll find the polls for best hero (which of course includes some teams, because separating them would make things way too crowded), best villain, and best supporting character. Not only should you think about which fictional beings you liked the most, but you should also take into account the performances. Were you not the biggest fan of a certain character but the performance really won you over and had you totally captivated? The polls will stay open until next Friday, so that gives you a whole lot of time to really think it through before picking the ones you want to win! Many of these movies are now available to watch at home (whether it's via Blu-ray/DVD or On Demand), so that means you have time to rewatch many of these movies before voting as well.

We have six more categories on the way, so check the homepage Saturday (tomorrow!) for part two and Monday for part three! Once again, voting for all of these categories will stay open until next Friday, so that should give you plenty of time to really give these options a good amount of thought. Black Widow, Green Goblin and Quicksilver are who I voted for.

Captain America was clearly the best, followed by Apes. Some may feel the order is reversed, but those two are clearly at the top.

Lego movie was a fun, pleasant surprise, as was GofG.

I didn't see BH6 and pretty sure the rest sucked.

I know this is about characters, still, just saying.

Cap(totally missed spidey for some reason, anyway Cap deserves it just as much), Winter Solider, and Gwen got my votes.

For best hero, I nominate Optimus Prime. Despite the received ratings, Prime has always been an inspirational leader in the films. The main reason I admire him though, is due to him taking care of priority. He's always the reason that if the Autobots failed, it wasn't for nothing.

For best villain, I nominate Shredder. Its rare that we see a villain that outclasses the hero in everyway possible, in this case four heroes. So thank you, Shredder, for the badass fight scenes.

Gwen Stacy takes the best supporting character for me. Her chemistry with Peter Parker is genuine teen romance. Need I say more?

Not like I can vote anyway.

Lego > Everything else

I'm hooked on a feeling, though I knew the votes would Soldier on a different way.

Someone actually picked Green Goblin as the best villain? The guy with no sensible motivation who did nothing interesting and looked like a mutant elf?

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is solid. Wolverine and Magneto are played so well in the films.

Best movie is transformers. Micheal bay is the best director ever and anyone that can accept that's an idiot

@samuel_simmons: Yea I'm being serious. I personally found him to be one of the best parts of the movie by far and the scene where he killed Gwen is one of my favorite scenes in any CBM.

@transformers1024 The scene was good, I agree with you there. But he looked terrible in that movie, had terrible acting and became the goblin out of nowhere and somehow instantly knew how to fly the glider, they did a god awful job with him and should have done better.

I voted: Cap, best hero- because Cap is the embodiment of the word hero. Best villain, I picked Ronan, because he was pretty bloodthirsty, sadistic & unrelenting. (People probably wondering why I didn't pick Winter Soldier, but I don't perceive him as a villain per se.) And best supporting character was Falcon, stood by Cap's side through thick & thin no matter what, an excellent partner & the perfect "wingman". (Sorry, I had to say it!! lol)

Captain America: Winter Soldier was a great movie while Guardians of the Galaxy was a great comic book movie. There is a difference.

Bucky is going to win. Horrible. His motives aren't his own and that's why he is not the best villian.

Koba was amazing. I hated him. That's an awesome villian. Bucky is just a husk for an ideal: HYDRA
