There are so many wonderful characters that it is hard to know a lot about each of them, understand them etc etc.

The point of this thread is to mention a (preferable) favourite character of yours, and then list the best reading for that character and why.

For example, you may say "Batman" and "Detective Comics" Issues 478-492 or a story arc like "Knighfall" and explain your reasoning.

Though, they don't have to be major characters. It might be a B. C or even D list character that you love and wish others did to.

Booster Gold

Read 52, then his 2007-2011 series, then Justice League: Generation Lost.

These are where Booster goes from attention whoring idiot to lovable hero. The 2007-2011 series is personally one of my favorite series, and JL:GL is one of my favorite maxiseries.

I think, to really appreciate Grim Hunt, one should read Kraven's Last Hunt and Kraven's First Hunt as well.

Good point, they need to really understand the Kravinof's hatred for Spiderman.

Daredevil:

Man Without Fear (Frank Miller origin story)

Daredevil: Yellow (builds upon his origin in a very nice story-telling fashion)

Born Again (The high point of Miller's DD run, and arguably the greatest DD story)

Guardian Devil (One of DD's greatest stories, and a good starting point for modern DD)

And then ether go back and read Miller's run which includes the iconic death of Elektra, or read Bendis or Brubaker's runs which follow Guardian Devil, or start Mark Waid's current series.

@ssejllenradFor the Man Who Has Everything is my favorite Supes story. I loved the Superman animated series too. He was powerful without being too powerful, and they made his villains credible threats.

Superman:

  1. Superman: Birthright- A true origin story. I consider this the Bible of Superman books.
  2. The Man Who Has Everything- Alan Moore going in depth about the man Kal-El could have been.
  3. The Death/Return of Superman- Not the greatest story, imo, but it's very important to Superman and comics in general.
  4. Superman/Batman: Apocalypse- Tells the story of Supergirl. I think it's awesome because its my favorite story that features Darkseid.
  5. Superman: Brainiac- Gives you depth info on one of Superman's best villains
  6. Superman: Last Son- A great story featuring General Zod
  7. All-Star Superman- An elseworlds story that really redefines how great Superman is
  8. Kingdom Come- An elseworlds story that features an older, more experienced Man of Steel
  9. Superman: Red Son- An elseworlds story that retells Superman's origin. Excellent ending.
  10. What Ever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?- A love letter and farewell to the Silver Age Superman.

Spider-Man: Reign (I love the way Peter and Mary Jane's interactions in this book are extremely creepy.) Immortal Weapons 1-5 Masterfully written each weapon could hold their own book. And the story with Iron Fist at the end of each issue is a nifty bonus. I enjoyed seeing him drawn that way. Secret Avengers #16 nuff said.

Batman: Year 100, Doom That Came To Gotham, Gotham After Midnight, Flashpoint Knight of Vengeance, Broken City, Batman Beyond: Hush, and Gotham County Line. (These are great books that you may not of heard of. These are all cool stories with great art, that don't have much to do with the Bats other books. But are definitely worth checking out. Steve Niles did Gotham After Midnight (Amazing over the top art.) and Gotham County Line. Brian Azzarello wrote Knight Of Vengeance which is a cool twist on the Batman story. He also did Broken City. And Mike Mignola wrote and did covers for Doom That Came To Gotham. A book that takes place in the last leg of the 1920's.

Superboy (kon-el)-

For the classic slightly campy superboy Regin of the Supermen and the 90's superboy ongoing series, issues 1-25 are the best but the others are alright as well -/superboy/49-5261/

For the newer superboy you cant go past the jeff lemier series from last year or so 1-6 are amazing also the new 52 series is alright

Daredevil

"Man Without Fear" by pre-insane Frank Miller. Probably the only time I've enjoyed Romita juniors pencils. great re-vamp of DD's orgin also, and nary a prostitute in sight (well, I guess there's a possible crack-whore, but okay)
