Continuing the Spider-Man themed popularity contests, @blackspidey2099 and I bring you the newest addition, this time focusing on the most popular, iconic, and best story arcs throughout Spider-Man's long and rich history, we gathered 64 arcs and they will be facing each other in matches to see which ones are the very best.

Stage 1, Round 1:

"If This Be My Destiny" (Amazing Spider-Man #31-33) by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko

Synopsis: Spiderman has to stop an organization trying to steal materials for building nuclear weapons. Unfortunately he is distracted by his Aunt May falling Ill. This also keeps him from making friends at college. Even though a beautiful blonde by the name of Gwen Stacey has shown an interest.

"The Evil That Men Do" (Mini-Series) by Kevin Smith and Terry Dodson

Synopsis: The mysterious disappearance of an old friend brings Felicia Hardy, the Black Cat, to New York in search of answers – and a certain web-slinging ex-lover of hers is following the same trail. How long will it take before they do some...catching up?

Callouts:

Probably the worst matchup and biggest mismatch that's gonna be here. One is a acclaimed classic that took the Web-Slinger to his limits, the other is a pretty bad mini-series that hasn't aged well at all.

I'm voting for Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's masterpiece - not only their best story together but also one of the best Spider-Man stories period.

If This May be my Destiny is one of the most iconic stories of all time. It is a character defining arc which really excells at what it was trying to do. When one thinks of ways to describe Spidey as a hero, it's impossible not to give an example with this story. It gets my vote.

Death of Captain Stacy (Amazing Spider-Man #87-92) by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr

Shed (Amazing Spider-Man #630-633) by Zeb Wells and Chris Bachalo

Synopsis: Half-Man, Half-Reptile..."the Lizard will take over all of Earth unless Spider-Man alone can stop him!" With these words, Dr. Curt Connors, the man who would be The Lizard, ushered a new kind of villainy into Spider-Man's life. Shed. As ashamed as I am to admit this, I haven't read a bunch of the classic Spidey stories, so the Lizard's best arc gets my vote.

Shed is a helluva good story which had the right amount of darkness, character growth and development and consequences in order to be remembered. However, the Death of Captain Stacy has been always one of the most iconic and important Spidey stories. Just because it has made such a big impact on the character to have a code as "No one dies" I think this story deserves my vote.

Fear Itself: Spider-Man (Fear Itself: Spider-Man#1-3) by Chris Yost and Mike McKone

Synopsis: Manhattan is gripped in violent panic. Peter Parker hasn't slept in days. Spider-Man cannot - WILL not - stop if there are people to be saved. But as the opening salvos of FEAR ITSELF take their toll, will Spidey be able to fight his own doubts?

Flowers for Rhino (Spider-Man's Tangled Web #5-6) by Peter Milligan and Duncan Fegredo

Synopsis: Rhino undergoes a brain operation that turns him into a super-genius. It is a pastiche of the classic Science Fiction story Flowers for Algernon.

Flowers for Rhino is way too goat to not lose here. Lovely piece of compact character work for Rhino.

I only read one of those. This is really sad for a self-proclaimed Spidey fan. Fear Itself is amazing, by the way. It is a great example of who Peter really is. It obviously gets my vote.

Flowers for Rhino was a great little Rhino story but it basically got undone almost immediately. On the other hand, Fear Itself: Spider-Man exemplified some of the quintessential aspects of the character with some brilliant art to go alongside it. It gets my vote quite comfortably.

Fear Itself: Spider-Man is actually one of the highlights of the whole abyssmal Marvel event. There was nothing good almost around that event apart from a few minis just like that one. It really showed us once again who is Spider-Man and why is he so important. However, Flowers for Rhino is one of the best Spidey stories of all time imo. It gives you depth for a character which you could've never imagined to care for or to see something meaningful for him.

Fear Itself for me. Was ne of the best parts of the event. I do love Flowers For Rino however since it was made moot kinda took away away from that Arc by a whole Arc. Kinda even made me upset..
