Does anyone agree with me here? I felt that one of them was the Watchmen. Although they did the best they could to portray the comic I doubt anyone could ever do a better job at portraying the story and characters than the comic does. They did the best they could to adapt it to a mainstream hollywood movie while staying true to the fans, but it left much to be desired.
Some comics should never be movies
Another one I can think of is Wanted. The comic is just too much fantasy to ever be takin seriously as a movie and the adaptation ended up completely changing the storyline and characters. Not to mention I thought it was a bad movie that completely deviated from the comic only to ripoff fight club and the matrix.
Can anyone think of any comic book adaptations that were good but not close to as good as the comics? Better yet, are there any comics that you personally believe should not be adapted to the silver screen since the story can't be genuinely expressed in a better way than a comic format?
Grant Morrison's Seaguy. I absolutely love it but cannot imagine it ever being a success on the silver screen. Even if there was a producer mad enough to produce a film that does the script and plot (plot?) justice... I can't go on. I just can't imagine it would happen in this or the next decade.
One I am looking forward to is The Boys. I have no idea how that is going to adapt to an American screen without a) butchering the ultraviolence and sex or b) giving it an NC-17 rating.
