Poll So let's be honest...have comic book movies become better then the actual comics themselves? (56 votes)
In my opinion it has.
In my opinion it has.
I said around equal, because comic book movie can be awful, but so can some comic books. Comic books are no stranger to being terrible and some story being overrated. That being said there a bunch of comic books, which mean while they are a bunch of garbage, there are also more amazing comic unlike comic book movies which take time to make. While the consistency of comic book movies has been increasing, the output of them does not equal to the amount of comic books being produced with four different Batman series, while the Batman solo movie will come out in two to three years.
On the whole, movies only big problem is seeing the characters. Movies take a lengthy time to put out, many characters are not due out for some time, and many others won't ever make it to film.
But movies tend to be more streamlined, remove the goofy shit that isn't needed, have closure and fit better into a more realistic setting, which is my cup of tea.
Also the people who run Marvel's studios haven't lost their damn minds and bowed down to the SJW insanity.
I think you need to be a lot more specific on what you're asking? There's so many different interpretations in the comics of characters and so many different plot lines, so I don't know how to answer.
The Civil War movie was much better than the comic, but I much preferred the Winter Soldier comic to the movie.
Dark Knight Returns, a story that inspired Batman V Superman, was much better than the movie.
The X-Men comics' characters are much better than the characters in the movies.
I like MCU Tony Stark abandoning his playboy ways and sticking with Pepper
I like Heath Ledger's Joker far more than the New 52 Joker
Black Widow is a much better character in the comics than the MCU
I love MCU Hawkeye, and I don't care for him in the comics.
MCU Spider-man won't fall into the garbage of the comics because movie goers won't deal with an abusive relationship like comic book fans.
Fantastic Four: I haven't seen the movies, but based on fan reaction, comics are much better
I could go on, but that's why it's hard to answer the question. Do you mean with what's currently going on in comics? I definitely prefer the MCU to current Marvel.
Comics have alot of trash stories but they also have gold that outshines every CBM so far. Comics have advantage to storytelling because they're not limited by length, a story can last as long as a year and have many issues(including tie-ins). But ofcourse movies are easier to follow still the amount of quality comics is bigger than quality CBMs, for now.
No and a thousand times no. I have some comics that I could read a thousand times and never get bored with most of the comic book movies, I can't do that they aren't my cup of tea.
I will say that I do prefer a self contain story compare to a long story, which is an advantage most comic book movie have, but even then that has change, granted movies are more manageable then comics. That being said long story can paid off tremendously.
That being said, the action from movies can't be replicated in comics since one is a moving picture, the other one isn't no matter how great the art is. So is just a back and forth thing. Personally there are only one movie and one comic personally I feel are perfect for what they are, so again for me is a tied. It just up to people personal taste, and the other variable.
For Marvel maybe. Marvel Comics has become a glorified ad company for the MCU. *coughxmencough*
For DC, even if their films were as popular as Marvel's they wouldn't whore publishing out for the sake of the films. Didio said it best at this years SDCC. The comics are the source material, in that respect they lead. If the comics are good the other media they're inspiring will have to step it up to do the source justice.
In some cases, I see they putting much more effort into making the movies than the comic books, or even letting the movies dictate the course of the current titles and characters. In this scenario, I would say the comic books are getting worse, poor and shallow instead of stating that CBMs are actually better.
@infantfinite128: More currently really.
Back in the day there just seemed to be a ton of great stories...now not so much.
@jasoninthewoods: Oh, in that case, I'd agree on the Marvel end. No doubt about it.
I haven't liked any DC movies outside the Dark Knight trilogy, so I still can't vote for that. I'm hoping the new batch of DCEU are better since they will direct how mass audiences see the characters. They have years of stuff to work with.
Nowadays I prefer Marvel movies to all the current comic big commercial comics and comic events, but I still think smaller comic companies than DC and Marvel tell much better stories and are better than comic movies
Depends on the movie and comic.
