The Book of Vishanti exists at the gateway between universes, and our Strange eventually reaches it in Multiverse of Madness. The Illuminati of another universe used it to kill their Thanos on Titan, instead of their Strange giving up the Time Stone, thus avoiding the Snap.

However their Strange also destroyed an entire other universe first, by using the Darkhold to dream walk. However when our Strange looked into the 14M+ future timelines, he by definition did NOT see an infinite number of future timelines.

So did he miss a future where he could have found the Book of Vishanti, used it with the Avengers + Guardians of the Galaxy, and avoided losing half the universe for five years plus all the related irreversible havoc that caused?

Consider that:

1. His doctor frenemy who lost a brother during the Blip calls out our Strange on this issue

2. Wanda calls out our Strange for sacrificing lives in this manner ... including Vision

3. Alt universe Christine calls out our Strange for taking unnecessary risks with the Darkhold

4. Our Strange ends MoM with that third eye corruption as a result of using the Darkhold

5. All the chaos in No Way Home started after our Strange botched a multiversal spell for a child

6. The entire reason our Strange became a sorcerer is from texting while driving

My point is, dude's massive ego might have F'ed up the universe!!!!

He didn’t know the Book of Vishanti was a real item. He said himself he thought it was just a story, as he never read the secret books of the sorcerer supreme. Since he didn’t think it was I assume he didn’t see a future of himself even using it. But I do agree 616 Strange is extremely incompetent.

nope definitely not. if doctor strange didn’t give him the time stone there would have been no way to undo what wanda did to the mind stone therefore making thanos lack 2 essential items for his plan. ironically enough it was strange and strange alone that made wanda and vision’s sacrifice worthless.

strange messed up

Yeah. It was required.

1st of all, I think it was part of the plan to end up with the Infinity Stones destroyed, as it keeps people from getting them back together.

2nd of all, there is no proof that the Book Of Vishanti would even work on our Thanos as he seems much stronger than any other variant of himself. The one that fought the Illuminati still had to wear his armor (whereas 616 Thanos did not, therefore implying 616 Thanos to be more durable.) Along with this, 616 Thanos showed nigh invulnerability to magic, so there is again, no proof that the Book would even work on him.

I would assume the time stone only showed possible solutions within that universe, with the book of vishanti outside that requirement given that it is trchnically outside said universe

Agreed. But having limited knowledge is not the same thing as having correct knowledge. People can do bad things out of ignorance.

What unfolded in IW + Endgame certainly was the plan for both our Strange (Blip) and He Who Remains (Sacred Timeline). Beyond that, I'm not seeing anyone who had insight into that plan -- even the Ancient One was perplexed by it.

In MoM, Wong said the Book of Vishanti is a thing of pure good that grants its user whatever is needed to defeat the evil it faces. So unless Thanos's actions were somehow not evil (intent vs effect perhaps?) then it would have worked against him. In MoM, Wanda just got to our Strange before he could activate the spell against her.

Although the Book of Vishanti page he saw did show America Chavez's star, who kinda sorta almost beat Wanda in a way, so maybe the Book did work after all?
