New stills from the upcoming She-Ra cartoon. They've de-aged her.... or at the very least de-boobed her. Animation is somewhere between Voltron and Steven Universe. Headed by someone from the Lumber Jane books (forgot it if's the artist or writer). Looks interesting and I'm sure it'll follow the path of what I've said with my Saint Reboot's blogs, in that they will inject some actual story and character development into what was nothing but a toy commercial in the 80's

Update- Trailer

Okay, now we have an actual trailer, not a freaking teaser. I gotta be honest.... animation is rough at times. And the new characters are so booooooring! Plus they have her a Shazam set up, and she doesn't become a hot 10, so I can't defend them anymore by saying she'll grow up.

for now it's merely aesthetics and given her origin story, i don't like that she's too young looking for that. if they were to put a different spin with the reboot, i may like it.

I was too young to watch the original but I kinda like the new design. I'm seeing some fan art for it and it looks really good, better than the original art.

I don't like how she young though.

What about these pictures makes you think the show will have social commentary? It's a fantasy cartoon that looks like it'll be staring a younger She-Ra (probably to emphasize the princess part of Princess of Power).

@cattlebattle: Let be honest here, the original wasn't all that good either. I enjoy it a lot for some reason, but it didn't age well and it's cheesy as hell these days.

Well, for one thing it's done by the Steven Universe creators, that show's fanbase is essentially known as "SJWs" but on acid. They literally bully people into near suicide if a fan draws a character in fan art with whiter skin than they are depicted with.

https://www.dailydot.com/parsec/steven-universe-fanartist-bullied-controversy/

Secondly, in one image She-Ra is notably more manly looking, whereas in the original show she was extremely feminine, and not to mention Bow, who was a white dude with a porn mustcahe, now appears to be racially ambiguous, probably for "muh diversity".

I know the Steven Universe fanbase is notoriously toxic, but they are not the ones making the show. Look no further when it was fans of SU harassing the voice of Emerald simply because it was a man whom identified as binary voicing a female Gem. SU, Rick and Morty, and Star Wars all have had fanbases bad enough where the creators have even called them out and condemned them for their online harassment.

Also, in this reboot show She-Ra looks like she's a girl/young teenager. Of course she's not going to be as attractive as the adult version, and I'll really need for you to post the image you're referring to, because just given the images on this thread, she looks plenty feminine. Long flowing hair, a skirt, I think a flower in the center of her chest. Yeah, she's a little shorter and more muscular, but not overly so and it seems like it's just because she is a young girl who hasn't grown up yet. It's kind of like complaining that Superman on the Legion of Superheroes cartoon was too skinny given how Superman is supposed to look, almost like he hadn't grown into that body type yet.

The fans are watching the show for a reason though, if the show didn't placate some sort of far left politics they believe in, it wouldn't have the fan base to identify with it in the first place, no??

She-Ra was a young woman in the original as well, Adora was only supposed to be around 17 or so.

That's a very black and white approach. As much as I hate the show, you can't lump the actions of the fanbase with the creators. Especially when the creators call out the fans for their actions

You just want her to have big boobs don't you?

I agree with saintwildcard that it's not fair to lump the actions of the fanbase with the creators or to say that the fans speak for the show. SU is all about love and acceptance (and regicide) and it doesn't encourage the harassment its fans dole out online. Besides, the people who work on SU have also worked on other cartoons like Adventure Time and I think Gravity Falls (though I could be wrong about that one) and those shows are not really that left-leaning, outside of maybe having one gay side character (i.e. not the main focus).

You're right that the original She-Ra was young too, being 17, and the reboot's She-Ra looks like she'll be even younger, maybe around 12 or 13. So my point still stands that she's a kid still growing.

I could easily tell the animators would have been inspired by Steven Universe/Cal Arts style but I didn't know there were actual Steven Universe folks working on it. That's why the designs look rubbish.

im i the only person here who is thinking she-ra looks like a dork? the shoulder pads look off to me and

the shorts look lame, no sword and sorcery hero will ever look cool in shorts, it would of looked better if they gave pants or her classic skirt,

on the bright side they got rid of the pornstache on that guy

Inb4 people call it SJW....oh wait already too late. Also is funny that showing that gay people exist and be about love and acceptance is consider SJW. So is any show with straight white male consider conservative gun nuts now?

Granted if you do not like Steven Universe (I personally do), Adventure Time or Bee and Puppy Cat, (Gravity Fall could be arguably lump together), I understand why you might not like the designs. I mean especially with Dreamwork reboot of Voltron, one would have expect an art style more similar to the Thundercat reboot or something (not the O.K K.O reboot clone). I mean granted is easier to have better animation with simple design and have more eye candy background and shots. Also she does look like a boy, but if she like 12 or something (which even then girl do grow breast at that age, but whatever everybody different and is a cartoon) I guess is fine. Of course she not going to look like her old self when she is younger, and is not Japan, they would not make a sexy loli. If she supposed to be older, then I guess the question become did she had breast cancer or something XD. I mean granted I know people made complaint about Squirrel Girl (granted the art work is admittedly terrifying at times) and is SJW to make her look manly, when in reality the art works for the comedy. So I am not going to judge it just yet until I see the show.

If you afraid just because former Steven Universe member and one of the person work on Lumberjane, which has 2 transgender and a gay couple, mean that they might have gay people and diversity, screw you. Having gay people and diversity does not automatically make something bad, and the original show was just a toy commercial that has not age well. So making some changes to make it work for a narrative story is good, whether those changes work, and whether their women empowerment is handle well, who knows. I personally like Steven Universe and Lumberjane (granted the person work on the art, not the writing last I check, and I thought the art was just okay) and think they handle those aspect well without making it feel force or pushing an agenda (aside for the Thanksgiving episode which was just on the nose). So I am personally looking forward to it.

Also I sort of do not like that the people who work on the show are calling everybody who hate the design perverted 40 year olds. Which do not get me wrong, there are some loud people who are like those, but to bunch everybody in together is unfair. Because for some people they just do not like the design, yet we live in a world where both side got to politicized everything which is just annoying.

Not sure how I feel about the redesign. Really don’t like the shorts, but the rest looks mostly okay. I have a feeling this is going to be crappy, but guess what, the original was crappy, too so no loss. Both He-Man Masters of the Universe and She-Ra Princess of Power sucked back then especially compared to Transformers G1 and GI Joe. Maybe, it will be good. I certainly hope so, but when I see this and then I look at Sailor Moon Crystal in comparison, I am not filled with confidence. At best, I am thinking Winx Club quality which is not high praise unless you’re looking for cartoon whacking material. It looks like they took those assets out in the redesign, though.

Probably because the group it's aimed at may be able to identify easier with a teen. I've seen some valid arguments for why her not being this beautiful woman is sending this message that woman can't be both pretty and powerful. That being said, she's young and she's a pretty girl when she transforms IMO. I'd rather have a good story that is about girl power, than just bash it for the art which is honestly fine and cutesy (kinda reminds me of Little Witch Academia, cute art and nothing overly sexual). She's young, she may have a time skip and become more feminine as she grows up.

Damn I actually can't tell if the animation is gonna be legit or not from what they've shown.

I'm not exactly holding my breath here but at least the sword slash at the end was good.

I do love the art though. For once it isn't another Adventure time/Stephen Universe Bean face cartoon or absurdly outlandish cutesy to the point of being dull. The Designs are solid and readable from a glance

There's not much to go by the teaser alone and I personally don't mind even if the show indeed follows some political agenda if the storyline still ends up as solid and enjoyable. Quite frankly, most of those characters had zero development back then aside from maybe the representation in the comics from what I remember, but even was still something quite superficial. I hope they make Hordak more complex and not a one-dimensional villain, She-Ra evolving into her own character and not what seems to be only a clone of He-Man at first, more world-building and so on.

She's not a woman though! She's a girl! By the look of it, she's going to be about 12 or 13 in the show. So she's a kid. There's no reason for her to look like a grown woman like the original, whom was many more years older.

And I don't think this show is aimed at you to begin with. I imagine it's meant for girls and young teens.

Also, what have you been watching where the women don't look like women? The majority of female heroes on Justice League Action look like women. Lapis, Rose, and Sapphire from Steven Universe all look like women. Princess Bubblegum and Flame Princess from Adventure Time all look like women. Korra and Asami look like women. Unless the show is an outright comedy like Teen Titans Go, no one is forbidding their characters from looking traditionally female. It's just that many more body types are allowed for women to have in cartoons than there used to be, thus why a 12 year old girl doesn't look like a super model in her twenties.
