Something I think doesn't get stated enough in Naruto discussion is that they can momentarily amp their speed in a bullrush like manner through focusing their chakra into specific parts of their body, which explains why Sasuke was able to initially blitz Deidara when they first met but throughout their fight there wasn't a big difference. Also seen in the Haku fight and Body Flicker Technique.

Something like Rock Lee vs Gaara is a real example of just being able to fight so fast the opponent can't keep up.

Let’s be real here. He’s not written to even be relativistic, that title goes only to night guy, assuming we understand the author’s intent with the whole warping/space vacuum thing. There was even something during the churning exams about how it’s almost impossible to go faster than sound. Not to mention, mecha naruto who was designed by Kishimoto himself is only stated to be about a few hundreds of kilometers per hour in terms of speed. The fandom needs to learn common sense sometimes.

HOWEVER, in terms of feats and battle forums he’s relativistic and with light speed reactions at most. It makes for better battles.

LMAO, the feat some users keep mentioning - LF, it wasn't even show directly at Naruto but to the side. Madara had to turn his head to bisect him at it is a BISECTING ATTACK. So Naruto reacted to the swing. I'm fine with saying that is LS but FTL, don't kid yourselves.

@ourmanuel: Well Kishi isn't the only author to do that though, there was that OP scan a few months back with a guy stating he could run a couple hundred kph and it was considered impressive, even though by feats that's extremely slow compared to anyone important in the verse. And honestly the whole Sound Ninja thing in the Chunin Exams was pretty early on in the series, and Sasuke broke that rule not long after, so I feel like it was them hyping up their jutsu more than anything else.

Not to mention, Kishi had to at least be somewhat aware of the power creep going on in the series, considering having 8 Gates Guy at Relativistic speeds would be beyond overkill if every other god tier was like supersonic+ max. Then you have Naruto and Sasuke doing things like crossing countries in seconds to minutes. We went from a world of mystical shinobi where it was impressive Sasuke could use Fire Release as a kid to a guy so powerful he can casually destroy mountains by drawing his avatar's sword.

That being said I can see why some people don't think they're as fast as they are, the anime's animation didn't do the speed of the series any favors as it rarely showcased it since it focused on the tactical/strategic aspect of the fights more. Although if we go by that then they're slower than some irl humans when it comes to running.

Naruto not warping soace isn't a real argument. Otherwise, all god tier Naruto characters are slower than 6th gate Gai because they don't regularly incinerate the air.

It's obvious that Kishi left out space warping due to sheer convenience, he had to drop a chapter every week and was extremely pressured and overworked with what he already had to. Drawing warping space every time a character moved would increase the effort per panel exponentially and make fights practically impossible to comprehend.

That's not author's intent, that's author's convenience.

@fullmetalemprah: well for the 8 gates guy part, it’s really not overkill when you consider all the hype and context behind the 8 gates technique. And this is of course assuming that what he illustrated is actually supposed to be relativistic speed.

As for the traveling to other countries part, just so you know, they didn’t have that much distance to cover. I’d recommend you go check out a map of the naruto world and you’d see that it wasn’t that impressive for relativistic chars.

The distance they travelled can be done by any lightning speed character with enough chakra reserves.

@ourmanuel: It really is, if, for example, one assumes that Kage are supersonic or a little above it, you'd only need to make to make Guy hypersonic in order for him to murder every single one of them with zero issues. There's a lot of hype behind the 8th Gate but all that was said was that you gain power beyond any of the Kage, and then you die as a result of how you gain it.

Streak is actually 100% correct on the whole author's convenience thing, it's the same reason in a series like Dragon Ball(a series confirmed to be FTL even if you lowball it) they don't make sonic booms or warp space every single time they move. It would get tedious drawing it in for a lot of mangaka so they leave it up to the audience to remember what speeds the characters are moving at. Not to mention the working conditions of a mangaka are supposedly hell incarnate, and Naruto required an issue every week. I don't blame Kishi at all for not drawing those things considering the workload is so bad.

I know they're MHS+ in travel, I wasn't arguing that. I was simply stating that it's a good example of power creep in the series by comparing it to statements in feats way back in the Chunin Exams. People say it was the War that caused it and while the War upgrades were massive this level of power creep was occurring throughout the entirety of the series, it was just less apparent until then.
