When we celebrate Hollywood (USA) films such as "Celebrity" [1998] and "The Dark Knight" [2008], we are celebrating socio-cultural contracts the highlight a human curiosity about the consequences of decision-making.

When we celebrate American comic book super-villains such as Brainiac (DC Comics) and Kingpin (Marvel Comics), we are talking about the 'appearance of leadership sensitivity.

Maybe that is the allure of portraying comic book supervillains on the big screen:

1. Jack Nicholson's Joker in Tim Burton's Batman

2. Al Pacino's Big Boy Caprice in Warren Beatty's Dick Tracy

3. Dane DeHaan's Green Goblin in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

We admire how these performances symbolize normal psychology, which is why perhaps we ask questions such as, "What if Jude Law portrayed the complicated super-villain Brainiac in the next Superman film?"
