If you'd pay attention in school you'd know that all(?!?!?!?!) Ninjas are Samurai specifically trained for espionage or assassination by their Shogun or Lord.
I don't know who your teacher was but he should bring his certificate back. Some ninja had probably been samurai indeed at some point of their lives, but the gap is huge so calling them that all is BS. Not to mention they'd passed a long period as ronin before that most likely.
Firstly, there was one Shogun. Second, not all the daimyos were rich enough to hire ninjas. Training ninja by themselves didn't make them ninjas at all. The ninjas lived in the mountains and had been hired for specific goals unachievable for the meres or even elite samurai. Of course there were specific exceptions, but we are talking about the richest and most powerful daimyio right before Edo period.
Third, how could you claim they are the same when they are nothing alike. And Im not referring to the infamous code, I'm talking about the training, the methods, the fighting styles, the weapons. The samurai were heavily equipped warriors, masters of the sword and the blade, unbeatable for the ninjas in straight 1v1. Ninjas were, as you said assassins, spies, they were taught to climb, to kill from ambush, quickly, from the shadows. Their weapons were completely different despite the fact that they used katana.
Their goals were different, their styles, weapons, equipment, believes, skills set, anything.
