Doesn't that contradicts and retcons pretty much everything that was said in the movies, comics, novels and interviews?
"Rey is the one who brought balance to the force" says a writer
@absol123: Old canon yes but they did have Anakin say bring balance to the force like I did so probably not meant to mean a final peace anymore.
I hate either of them being the chosen one tbh I dont thinking does SW any good but its done for now.
No it doesn’t contradict anything as the prophecy never said that the balance would remain like that forever.
In other words, Rey and TROS invalidated the payoff finale of one trilogy and the thematic foundation of the other.
This. The sequels pretty much make the six movies that came before it irrelevant.
I guess from the new canon's perspective the jedi were evil because wiping out the Jedi Order and assisting the rise of the Empire is the only thing Anakin actually accomplished.
@metaljimmor: Ironically before 99 the only thing Anakin accomplished was that and saving his son.
The Skywalker saga ended with Return of the Jedi for me.
Yah, except there wasn't a prophecy about bringing balance to the Force at the time.
Now though? The only way to interpret the prophecy is to assume the Force hated the Jedi Order and wanted it gone since Palpatine dying is up to Rey.
Also what you said isn't ironic.
@metaljimmor: I dont like the prophecy either way and for the rest of your comment I dont have a clue or a care what that was a about lol good day mate.
And I do care about the prophecy. As does George Lucas who wrote the prophecy into his universe and story. So I don't see why you wanted to point out that it was a new addition to the lore as of Phantom Menace. I already know that. It doesn't change that it is now a core part of Star Wars.
The second half was because you used the word ironic incorrectly. There isn't anything ironic about the situation you pointed out.
@metaljimmor: yep and GL also didnt seem to care when he got am extra 4 billion to allow all the changes and retcons to happen as they want now.
Fair enough if you say so nothing else to say on it anyway star wars has always been a mess but I like the parts I like from it.
Bob Iger also admitted in his personal biography that he lead Lucas to believe that they'd take his notes on what he'd like the sequels to be under consideration but, because there was nothing legally obligating him to do so, completely abandoned Lucas' ideas and then decided with Kathleen Kennedy to shamelessly rip off A New Hope to play on people's nostalgia.
Granted Lucas got four billion dollars out of it so I can't be too angry for him but that is still a dick move.
More power to you to like what you like. But the sequels also took a dump on many things from the first six movies that I liked and I'll voice my displeasure about it to my heart's content.
The Skywalker saga ended with Return of the Jedi for me.
